Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Center Executive Director, the Senior Program Director is responsible for the overall management and development of the Center’s Membership, Active Older Adults, and Wellness programs.  Responsibilities include staff leadership and development, program retention, program revenue growth and expense control, and philanthropy.  The Senior Program Director is also responsible for facility management; maintaining all safety procedures and equipment; overseeing all safety-related operations including training and certifications.  This position also serves on the Center leadership team, which oversees the total branch operations and effective use of all resources.

  • Ensure outstanding customer/member service and meet the New Way to Work philosophy and Association Standards; respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner
  • Lead by example, empower and work directly with all YMCA staff to create a quality image, environment and experience through staff performance and facility upkeep
  • Create a caring, friendly, fun, safe environment that provides opportunities for staff and members to connect, develop relationships, and achieve their goals through YMCA membership
  • Represent the YMCA with area organizations, community leaders, businesses and other interested persons in the community for the purpose of building and/or and maintaining collaborative relationships that strengthen programs
  • Ensure assigned programs meet current and emerging community needs through innovative program development, evaluation & on-going training of staff
  • Ensure establishment of new program activities and expand upon programs in the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and schedule staff and volunteers as needed; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
  • Prepare annual budget and monitor departmental budgets as assigned to ensure budgetary goals are met
  • Participate as a key staff leader in the Annual Giving Campaign by telling YMCA story by recruiting, leading and supervising volunteers and securing charitable donations
  • Perform assigned “Manager on Duty” and other assigned responsibilities as part of the Center’s leadership team
  • Serve on Association Cabinets as deemed appropriate by supervisor

Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers and members to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Four year college degree or comparable YMCA experience
