Job Summary

The People & Culture Manager is directly responsible for two primary functions: coordinating across the entire organization to establish and maintain a first-class workplace culture; and the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resource functions.

The role of People & Culture Manager work across the organization to implement systems and processes that ensure those values are central to our work and identity.

 

The People & Culture Manager is someone who embraces change, enjoys working with others, and can effectively work to maintain a positive, passionate team. Strong interpersonal skills, a good sense of humor, and a great work ethic are essential. The People & Culture Manager will be also be responsible for recruiting and maintaining best-in-class talent to solidify Adventure Science Center’s mission to open every mind to the wonders of science and innovation, fostering a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage all human resource activities, including but not limited to:
    • Compliance with federal, state, and local employment law pertaining to all personnel matters
    • Administer various employee benefits programs including group medical/vision, dental, life, 401K and workers compensation organizational compensation and performance evaluation program
    • Implementation and communication of personnel policies and procedures
    • Ensure efficient and consistent onboarding and off boarding processes
    • Create career-path programs for team members and coordinate with leadership to provide proper training and professional development
    • Maintain current set of established HR metrics (including but not limited to: turnover, diversity, workplace environment)
    • Collaborate with leadership to establish the organization’s goals and practices related to equitable and inclusive staffing, recruiting and retention
    • Establish, maintain and monitor all HR department systems, processes, records and reports
    • Maintain current knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources
    • Consult with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the CEO, on personnel matters

 

  • Implement practices and systems that support a culture of collaboration, respect, inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility
  • Coordinate and Implement organization-wide cultural initiatives such as:
    • Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA)
    • Team building and culture events
  • Responsible for overseeing a best-in-class working environment where staff are supported, empowered, challenged, excited, and growth-mindset oriented, and where staff turnover and burnout are minimized
  • Partner with outside organizations to inform best practices about maintaining an excellent culture
  • Manage employee recognition programs
  • Coordinate effective and efficient internal communications strategies
  • Schedule and coordinate quarterly staff meetings
  • Create and manage departmental budget

Qualifications

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and experience with compliance law with HR process and benefits, and facilitating program to track company compliance
  • Excellent employee relation skills and ability to resolve employee concerns and conflicts
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and strategize from a management and organizational wide perspective
  • Experience with metrics in HR functions and ability to develop metrics as needed
  • Capacity to safeguard confidential information and Professionals Code of Ethics is essential
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility should difficult situations arise
  • Able to navigate and manage relationships
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Software
  • Experience with human resources information and payroll systems

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business or related area and five years of human resource experience. Society of Human Resource Management-SHRM-CP, Sr. CP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred
