Job Summary

Summary: The Senior Director, Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors who have the capacity to make major gifts, with an emphasis on donors with the capacity to make gifts of $10,000+ to support Soles4Souls. Individual donors at this level and above are members of Soles4Souls’ giving society called “Sole Society”. The Senior Director, Major Gifts will build and manage an active national portfolio of 75-125 donors. This role will help maintain and build a strong base of individual donors to support existing organizational priorities and the ambitious growth of key Soles4Souls programs. The Senior Director, Major Gifts will provide key strategic and organizational leadership to a growing development department and collaborate closely with other Soles4Souls departments, namely the business development, operations, and strategic impact teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages a national portfolio of 75 – 125 major and lead individual prospects as necessary, with an emphasis on building the lead gift pipeline. In some instances, serve as the secondary prospect manger to assist in managing key corporate and foundation donors.
  • Engages in identification, qualification, strategy, relationship building and closing of major, lead, and planned gifts.
  • Leads and participates in proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio.
  • Works closely with the Chief Marketing Officer, VP of Business Development, other key staff, and outside counsel, as appropriate, to develop major gift prospect strategies. When necessary, prepare and partner with key leadership to cultivate and solicit major and principal gift prospects, including board members and advisory council members.
  • Maintains strong and relevant knowledge of Soles4Souls organizational activity, priorities, and programmatic updates.
  • Engages donors through substantive, face-to-face or virtual visits.
  • Steward and manage relationships with Soles4Souls Sole Society members.
  • Develops and implements an annual work plan, under the guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer, with measurable objectives and annual fundraising goals based on portfolio.
  • Travels as needed to key regional areas for cultivation and solicitation of major and lead gift prospects. When applicable, assist with the planning and prioritizing of institutional leadership regional visits and accompany leadership on visits with key prospects.
  • Provide early leadership and guidance to a growing development team.
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the Soles4Souls team to advance the goals of the organization.
  • Records all prospect activity in Soles4Souls donor database, including visit reports, gift ratings, expected and submitted proposals, to appropriately track progress towards individual, team and department annual goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in a non-profit organization; demonstrated success in a managing and forging relationships with prospective donors
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and securing high-five and six-figure gifts
  • Demonstrated significant growth in fundraising revenue in roles with progressive responsibility
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit, excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority
  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising concepts, techniques and procedures
  • Preferred experience with social services and/or international non-profit organizations
  • Action-oriented and passion for Soles4Souls’ mission
