The Senior Development Director is responsible for the development and management of a portfolio of current and potential individual donors, as well as key programmatic initiatives and their fundraising strategy. This includes working with fundraising staff to build the fundraising strategy while building and leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of the organization’s network. As a key leader in the Southeast Region development team the Senior Development Director will oversee the region’s Development Coordinator, managing the consistency of support to all Chapters.  The Senior Development Director will be a key contributor to the development team and will be essential to the achievement of the organization’s fundraising goals.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with the Regional Director to drive strategy for expansion for the Region.
  • Leadership of Chapter Development staff.
  • Advance individual and organizational relationships with prospective and existing donors that result in large philanthropic contributions for the Chapters that make up the Southeast Region.
  • Identify, qualify, solicit and steward a portfolio of approximately 70+ new and existing donor prospects with capacity to make major and principal level gifts (from $5,000 to $100,000+).
  • Prospect and solicit funding from corporate and private foundations across the Southeast Region.
  • Develop and manage volunteer committees focused on securing high level gifts for the Foundations key initiatives.
  • Develop volunteer relationships that will lead to new donors, corporate fundraising teams, potential honorees, and other revenue generating opportunities.
  • Play a key role in supporting the recruitment and management of the local advisory boards.
  • Collaborate with major gifts officer to identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward donors to secure gifts over $10,000.
  • Have an understanding of the many ways a donor can give through non-cash assets, legacy giving, and individual giving to provide high quality, personalized experience for donors.
  • Gather data to assess donor prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize their current and lifetime giving potential.
  • Work with the programs and development team to secure new and renew previous chapter and regional corporate partnerships.
  • Use Raiser’s Edge database to document moves management process and provide accurate relationship status and financial projections for portfolio.
  • Translate highly technical information into accessible written and verbal language that will compel donors to support key programs and projects.
  • Serve as an active member of the development team; support the implementation of short- and long-term objectives; attend staff meetings, serving on special task forces, participate in cross departmental meetings, and contribute to the Parkinson’s Foundation strategic plan and overall mission.
  • Serve as a fundraising generalist working in all capacities to support any regional vacancies when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Proven experience with a large giving portfolio.
  • Capable of building and sustaining relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations.
  • Ability to close face-to-face sales and sponsorships.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to external constituents.
  • Strong volunteer recruitment and management skills.
  • Proven and significant skills in planning, budgeting, and volunteer development.
  • Outgoing, energetic, with strong written, verbal and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to adhere to timelines and prioritize.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
  • Ability to work a variety of hours including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Southeast Region Travel up to 20%.
