Retention Services Coordinator
Project Return helps people who are coming back from prison. Our mission is to provide services and connect people with resources needed to return successfully to work and community after incarceration. For over three decades, Project Return has been doing the work of prisoner reentry in Nashville, facilitating job search, job placement, and job retention, as well as providing wraparound intensive case management and a broad array of assistance and support, for people who come to Project Return with the determination to make a new beginning after incarceration.
The person in this position imparts job search coaching and case management for people returning to the community from incarceration, with a focus primarily on employment retention and success, and additionally fostering engagement in skills-building, while providing wraparound support including child-support services.
- Facilitate screenings and applications, at both pre-release and post-release, of people who are potentially eligible for Project Return services; conduct welcome sessions and provide introductory information to new participants regarding our array of services; facilitate enrollment in Project Return.
- Coach participants on job search, job acquisition, and job retention; provide intensive and encouraging case management services, including the discernment of skills and interests, the interactive creation of résumés, the provision of job leads and job referrals with particular attention to fit, the coaching toward employment opportunities, and the development and monitoring of individualized goals, with a particular focus on career development, including training/education and employment acquisition and retention; actively foster positive and productive relationships with clients
- Establish and maintain frequent contact with participants, on and off the job, according to PR procedures.
- Maintain thorough documentation of participant status and Project Return services, by immediate and ongoing entering of information and data in online and hardcopy client files
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with employers and supervisors of participants
- Seek feedback from employers, supervisors, and PR staff regarding participant performance and provide constructive feedback to the participant in order to ensure job retention.
- Distribute retention incentives and other services according to the retention program to eligible participants.
- Assist participants with child support obligations through one-on-one counseling sessions, including accurate calculations and clear explanations of the amounts owing in terms of balances and arrearages of child support obligations, and the available options for payment, as well as coaching the enrollees and engaging in planning (i.e., budget, career, education)
- Connect with child support workers at local and state child support agencies to initiate specific actions for participants pertaining to their case including paternity establishment, order establishment, order modification, deferral of monthly child support payments and enforcement actions during successful project participation, reinstatement of driver licenses, reviewing cases for errors, and case closure where appropriate; maintains beneficial working relationships with other entities and individuals across child support, problem-solving court, corrections, and employment services fields.
- Provide to or connect participants with direct services for which they are eligible.
- Assist participants with obtaining and maintaining permanent housing; through on ongoing budgeting, housing consultations, and housing partnerships.
- Collaborate closely and collegially with Project Return co-workers, supporting their efforts, mutually sharing information, and contributing helpful input for the betterment of the agency and services to participants; such collaboration will include conferrals with Project Return counselors regarding progress achieved and challenges faced by participants, as well as interactive communication with business development colleagues regarding employment prospects and new job acquisitions.
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience, skills, and interests preferred: Excellent written and oral communication skills; capability and comfort with calculating child support obligations and with assisting individuals in money management; enjoy working with diverse people; effective at building relationships; proficient in data management and data entry; understanding of employment practices; self-motivated, team-spirited, and highly organized; strong desire to work for an organization helping people make a new beginning, and an understanding of how this work benefits the person, the household, the neighborhood, and the community.
