Job Summary

Work for one of the most beautiful places in Nashville! Formerly the family home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, Cheekwood now serves the public as a botanical garden, arboretum, and museum with period rooms and art galleries. Cheekwood’s mission is to stimulate the mind and nurture the spirit, for not only our visitors, but our staff as well.

We are currently seeking a Retail Coordinator to provide excellent customer service, drive sales and assist in store operations at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. Cheekwood has two gift shops on the property. The NEW Garden Gift Shop which will be located at the front entrance will feature gardening tools, décor, gift and children’s items. The Mansion Gift Shop is located inside the Historic Mansion & Museum, selling jewelry, art and books. There is also a Holiday Marketplace open from November-January. This position is equally sales-focused and operational.

Job Responsibilities

  • Greets the visitors as a Cheekwood representative, always offers excellent customer service with a genuinely friendly attitude while providing information and assistance to customers.
  • Responsible for opening/closing procedures within the Gift Shops.
  • Operates Point of Sale system – completes sales, returns and various other transactions.
  • Responsible for tracking both individual and store sales, while aiming to meet daily, weekly and monthly financial goals.
  • Assists Retail Director in store sales tracking and individual performance of staff. Communicates sales expectations to staff regularly.
  • Provides training to Retail Sales Associates and assists in hiring process.
  • Receives shipments in a timely manner and ensures accuracy of packing slips and invoices.
  • Assists Retail Director in entering purchase orders and receiving merchandise into inventory system. Creates product descriptions, categorizes and prices items.
  • Responsible for E-commerce management – takes product photos, uploads product descriptions and item images. Fulfills web orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintains visual merchandising standards in both stores.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Retail Supervisor, Sales Lead or Manager experience is required.
  • Inventory management experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain e-commerce site, including taking/editing photos and copywriting.
  • Knowledge of merchandise and ability to upsell.
  • Pleasant service-oriented demeanor and strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain productive and motivated while working alone.
  • Flexible schedule – must be available to work 40 hours each week including several nights & weekends throughout the year.
  • Willing to walk/stand for long periods.
