Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Resident Camp Director, the Resident Camp Director of Operations is responsible for assisting in the oversight of Traditional Overnight Camp with primary supervision of specific programs such as: Immersive Theme Camps & Specialty Camps, maintaining relationships with outside partnerships and medical camps, and the overall logistics of Resident Camp. The Resident Camp Director of Operations plays a vital role in program direction and implementation while maintaining the safety of the campers and staff, and ensuring resident camp’s daily program is run efficiently through detailed supervision and objective business decision making.

Job Responsibilities

  • Model and put into practice behavior that supports inclusion and diversity
  • Guide and direct campers and staff in a variety of camp programs and activities including but not limited to: Discovering Atlantis, Harry Potter, Survivor, Star Wars, Minecraft & Percy Jackson
  • Ensure camp programs are delivered to all guests in a safe, fun, magical and efficient environment; know, understand, train and execute all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp
  • Create, implement and grow extended season programs including but not limited to family, teen and parent/child programs producing new revenue streams
  • Ensure that all program area schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner and coordinated with all other departments
  • Develop and execute staff trainings and sessions for summer and seasonal staff including boat drivers & nurses
  • Coordinate all program area schedules, room set-ups, meal times and logistics in a timely manner and coordinated with all other departments
  • Work with special events, promotion, rainy day programs, overnight camp, extended care and any other special needs as they arise
  • Creates, assigns and maintains mainframes, staff activity leadership coverage and camper group assignments
  • Maintain correspondence home to the parents of campers
  • Assist Resident Camp Director to recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and supervise staff
  • Take part in mid-summer and post-summer evaluations with the Resident Camp Director
  • Work with the Resident Camp Director to construct and manage measurable fiscal responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other staff

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, versatility,
  • and independent thinking
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, and most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends year round, with the possibility of some overnight.
  • **Resident Camp runs from Sunday PM – Saturday PM during summer season
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Lifeguard Instructor and/or ropes course experience preferred
  • Experience supervising staff is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Certifications Required:

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Before start of 1st shift: Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
