Summary

This position is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients’ health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Ensures job performance is in compliance with Mercy’s policies and procedures, OSHA, CMS, AAMI, HIPPA, federal, local and state regulations and the Mercy mission and values.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Performs analysis of patient data including the status of lab work, patient assessments; reports changes to the physician; makes recommendations for patient care; performs initial and ongoing patient assessments. develops patient care plans including short- and long-term goals; provides patient education; participates in the care center QA/QC process. Conducts individualized patient assessments, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within the timeframe specified by the client facility’s policies, procedures or protocols

Administers medications, prior authorization requests, crisis phone calls, and other appropriate treatments per physician orders.

Documents, verifies and ensures implementation of physician orders; accurate and timely clinical documentation. Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.

Delivers care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations according to individualized needs. Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and client facility staff. Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Associate degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program; current RN license in the state of practice;

Experience: Minimum of two years’ of psychiatric nursing experience; telephone, computer and keyboard skills preferred

Functional Competencies: Conducting accurate assessments, prioritization, time management, multitasking, critical thinking, dependability, innovation.
