Job Summary
The Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist (ROPS) will be responsible for conducting information training, outreach, providing naloxone-specific training, and tracking naloxone distribution in various communities throughout Region 5 North 1 (Cheatham County, Robertson County, Sumner County, Montgomery County, Dickson County, Stewart County, Houston County, and Humphreys County).
Job Responsibilities
- Provide training to community and professional groups, law enforcement, first responders, pharmacist, treatment providers, key stakeholders, and the general public on topics such as stigma reduction, effects of opioids on the brain, recognizing potential cases of a substance use disorder, referrals to treatment programs, compassion fatigue and burn out, chronic pain management without opioids, signs and symptoms of overdose, preventing overdose.
- Utilize Motivational Interviewing and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) tools to connect individuals with recovery support services;
- Attend all State organized ROPS/program training, and calls
- Track program efforts to ensure project goals, objectives, and activities are being successfully completed. Prepare and submit any required progress reports.
- Distribute naloxone according to the priorities and protocols established by the State.
- Develop partnerships with various regional and local communities including scheduling meetings, providing information, and coordinating trainings and events.
- Participate in strategic planning for outreach and promotion of the overdose prevention program.
- Participate in the development and implementation of education and public awareness activities in the Region.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong community relationship skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to track multiple forms and spreadsheets.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
- Reliable transportation and availability to travel within 8 county regions with limited overnight/statewide travel.
- Experience in public speaking and creating and delivering presentations for groups ranging from 5 to 200 attendees.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Flexibility to attend after-hours/weekend events
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and navigate through difficult situations
- Eligible to complete, or have already received, State of TN Peer Recovery Specialist Certification, or nurse/paramedics credentials
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent walking, stooping, bending, standing, and driving
Preferred:
- Lived experience or experience working with individuals and families affected by the opioid disorder
- Knowledge of or relationships with the recovery community in the regional area
- Lives work or has strong community relationships in the Region 5 North area (Cheatham County, Robertson County, Sumner County, Montgomery County, Dickson County, Stewart County, Houston County, and Humphreys County).
