Job Summary

Nashville International Center for Empowerment, established in 2005, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ethnic community-based organization dedicated to ensure refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come. The Refugee Support Services (RSS) Specialist will report to the RSS Program Manager. The RSS Specialist will primarily support refugee clients negatively impacted by COVID-19.  The RSS Specialist will help refugees obtain the resources and life skills to become self-sufficient and achieve sustained social and economic wellbeing. This is a full time, 40 hour position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides financial support in the case of an emergency to cover medical costs not covered by insurance related to COVID-19 infection
  • Distributes emergency housing cash assistance associated with a loss of income due to COVID-19 related issues with client employment
  • Submits referral to the NICE employment program if new employment is needed due to the impact of COVID-19 and assists in job search and placement
  • Assists eligible clients in completing applications and re-certifications for DHS benefits (re-enroll clients in SNAP or adjustment of a SNAP case to reflect modified income level)
  • Provides COVID-19 safety and awareness training to households where behavior modification is deemed necessary
  • Ensures clients have adequate PPE inventory to protect the family at work, home, and school
  • Coordinates client enrollments across multiple programs to prevent duplication of services (refer clients to the Self-Sufficiency program if RSS or RCA extensions are available)
  • Provides direct case management and healthcare enrollment support (maintains client TennCare enrollment, if eligible)
  • Conducts regular client follow-ups and case management based on client needs
  • Maintains detailed case files/case notes for clients served
  • Meets all mandated core services and paperwork/reporting deadlines   
  • Assists with administrative tasks affiliated with program operations
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • High levels of motivation, self-reliance, and independence
  • Attention to detail

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral English proficiency
  • Advanced computer and typing skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of databases and data systems, especially federal and state
  • Knowledge of current TANF, social service, employment/labor, and welfare issues and trends preferred but not required
  • Candidates that can speak any of the following: Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Dari, Spanish, Burmese, or Nepali are preferred but not required
  • Reliable transportation

Experience:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree   
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in non-profit settings
