Job Purpose

The primary objective of the Refugee Clinic Coordinator is to ensure a smooth-running and welcoming refugee screening clinic through the timely coordination and implementation of a variety of detailed preparation, clinic day, and follow-up responsibilities for Refugee Medical Screening at Siloam Health Melrose.

Siloam Health provides Refugee Medical Screening for newly arrived refugees, asylees, and parolees. The three central purposes of these screenings are to 1) ensure follow-up for pre-existing health conditions, 2) identify and report communicable diseases, and 3) identify any health conditions that might impact the ability to work or go to school in Middle Tennessee.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with resettlement agency staff (i.e., case managers) about new refugee arrivals, RMS appointment times, etc.
  • Access, review, and upload patients’ Overseas Medical Records (OMRs)
  • Schedule RMS appointments and upload patient information using Siloam Health’s EMR
  • Schedule interpreters from the community and/or local agencies for RMS appointments
  • Prepare paper charts, labels, and other paperwork prior to RMS clinics
  • Organize effective and efficient RMS clinics through liaising with other Siloam departments, including Nursing, Patient Relations, and Providers
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator for recruitment and management of RMS volunteers
  • Coordinate patient flow during RMS clinics, from check-in to check-out
  • Ensure all established protocols and procedures are followed for Refugee Medical Screenings
  • Manage all patient follow-up with the Patient Relations team inclusive of no shows, reschedules, and follow-up appointments
  • Evaluate preparation and procedures for on-going quality improvement (QI) 
  • Promote and maintain good relationships with resettlement agency staff, translation staff, volunteers, and refugee families

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication and screening of refugee families with the Nashville Neighbors program
  • Represent Siloam at regularly scheduled Tennessee Office for Refugees (TOR) meetings and relay information gathered at these meetings to other key players at Siloam
  • Coordinate RMS meetings monthly or as needed amongst Siloam staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree (or higher) preferred
  • Cross-cultural experience preferred, particularly with immigrant and refugee populations
  • Spanish language a plus

Qualifications

  • Passionate about Christian ministry to the underserved and in full agreement with Siloam’s mission and core values
  • Proven ability to communicate with people from different cultural and religious backgrounds
  • Desire to serve persons with limited access to healthcare from different cultures and faith beliefs
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office products
  • Experience using electronic medical records preferred
  • Strong proven organizational and prioritization skills and experience
  • Ability to multi-task and direct multiple activities at once
  • Enjoyment of coordination and collaboration in a team setting
  • Adherence to OSHA as well as confidentiality requirements
  • Willingness to take charge in directing RMS clinic efforts with professionalism and consideration
