Job Description

Title: Puppeteer

Terms: 40 hours a week

Responsible to: Executive Director/Director of Programs

Job Responsibilities

  • Present educational puppet programs to children and adults in the classroom setting. This will include day trips to schools up to 3 hours away and some overnight trips of up to 5 hours away.
  • Learn Puppet Programs where there is an immediate need for a performer.
  • Assist with loading/unloading van, and setting up/breaking down of equipment, stage, and props at performances.
  • Attend regularly scheduled practices when not performing.
  • Adhere to deadlines for script memorization.
  • Attend training events that may require overnight stays.
  • Attend and participate in other workshops and in-services to gain an understanding of the issues presented and feel comfortable in dealing with the questions the children ask the puppets during presentations.

Qualifications

  • Have an interest in children and a desire to advocate for their needs.
  • Possesses the ability to relate to educators, parents, children, and community members.
  • Must have the ability and desire to develop puppetry skills.
  • Must hold a driver’s license and be willing to drive long distances.
  • Able to have a flexible schedule and work as needed when programs are scheduled.
  • Able to stay overnight when traveling to schools over three hours away.

License/Certification:

  • Driver’s License (Required)
