Job Summary

The National Museum of African American Music is seeking an experienced Program Manager to support our educational and public program offerings. Under the supervision of the NMAAM Sr. Director of Education and Public Programs, the Programs Manager will provide critical mission support for high quality educational engagement and public programs. The Programs Manager will assist in providing operational support necessary to ensure the success of public programs for all ages.

NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving the legacy and celebrating the accomplishments of the many music genres created, influenced, or inspired by African Americans. The Museum will share the story of the American Soundtrack, integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Supports Director of Education and Public Programs by planning and implementing educational programs for students of all ages
  • Executing assigned education and program planning goals from NMAAM Director of Education and Public Programs, enhancing plans and projects for best results
  • Managing teaching artists and contracted artists where needed
  • Tracking and ordering supplies when needed, while maintaining an up to date inventory list
  • Assist Director of Education and Public Programs with preparation for required grant reports and helps to collect and maintain complete and accurate quantitative and qualitative data
  • Assists in managing seasonal interns
  • Processes department invoices as needed
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, and minimum of two years related work experience required
  • Experience working in public programming and a passion for working with students of all ages
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; research and data gathering skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, basic negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and implementation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to be a self-starter
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Professional suites

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). While a regular work schedule will be established, flexibility is desired. Some Saturdays and evenings required.

All Staff Duties:

  • Serves as leader to assure strong communications between NMAAM and all external constituents.
  • Actively seeks to learn the history of NMAAM.
  • Supports and promotes the Museum’s mission.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special events.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
