Job Summary

Reporting directly to the President/CEO, this role will lead and oversee SELECT, the Foundation’s new initiative that aims to bring early literacy leaders together from across Tennessee to build connections, understand the statewide landscape, and ultimately craft a shared vision for early literacy efforts.

Job Responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Developing and fostering relationships with literacy stakeholders, including partner organizations, funders, and governmental entities, including, but not limited to, the Tennessee Department of Education and the Tennessee General Assembly
  • Convening and facilitating early literacy partners in-person and virtually
  • Interviewing partners to inventory early literacy efforts and outcomes
  • Mapping and maintaining an up-to-date landscape of early literacy efforts over time
  • Identifying potential new partners to join and support SELECT
  • Managing various advisory and/or working groups, as applicable
  • Creating a framework for evaluating SELECT’s progress toward its goals and tracking progress over time
  • Developing an accountability and reporting structure for SELECT partners
  • Producing reports and publications for appropriate audiences
  • Summarizing and presenting key information to clearly communicate progress/outcomes to partnering organizations, funders, governmental entities, etc.
  • Collaborating with development and communications team members to promote SELECT and with other team members to strengthen early literacy in Tennessee


Job Brief:

A successful Manager of SELECT is a self-starter who thrives in ambiguous situations and likes to solve difficult problems. The ideal candidate has strong social skills and looks forward to meeting and speaking with diverse people. This person can manage a large number of relationships and a large quantity of information while maintaining high levels of customer service and accuracy. The Foundation’s first Manager of SELECT holds a core belief that early literacy is critical to the future of Tennessee and sees breaking down silos and bringing people together as imperative to positively impact the field.



Preferred Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant, meaningful field as related to this description
  • Significant experience in the fields of early childhood or elementary education, program or account management, government or nonprofit operations, and/or organizational change management
  • Compelling and successful history of leading and implementing new programs/projects/initiatives
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency within Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.); Salesforce experience is a plus


  • Ability to travel across Tennessee 35% of the time (Some overnights will be expected.)
  • Current driver’s license required

Reports to: President/CEO

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Hours & In-Office Expectations:

  • Full-time, exempt employment
  • Hybrid work schedule (Typically we work remotely on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, and in our Nashville-based office on Wednesdays and Thursdays; this is subject to change, based on the organization’s needs – events, retreats, deadlines, etc. – as well as your travel schedule.)
  • On occasion, duties as well as responding to issues, may be necessary outside of normal working hours (e.g., program deadlines, urgent requests)
