Job Summary

Summary: The Building Healthy Families program provides supportive and empowerment program to low-income families living in Middle Tennessee. Under the supervision of the Regional Director of Middle TN, the Program Manager will execute and implement the specific services of their assigned programs and ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and within budget. The position will provide strategic management for the health and growth of the department and work in close collaboration with the Family and Youth Program Specialist.

Job Overview

The program manager will oversee current program operations, development of new strategies, and implement the Building Healthy Families program and the Healthy Gardens program. The program manager will successfully engage community members and volunteers to assist in implementing the programs. The program manager will empower participants to go from surviving to thriving by providing in basic needs, safety and stability, community integration, self-sufficiency, and self-determination.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversees food pantry operations and seeks new and innovative solutions to reduce hunger.
  • Maintain connections and relationships with participants in each program.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of weekly Building Healthy Families meetings for women living in North Nashville including coordinating meal/snack preparation and distribution of personal care and household items.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the family raised-bed garden program. Increases volunteer participation for program implementation and develops garden peer group meetings. Develops and creates partnerships with organizations, government entities and site managers where programs are implemented. Collect and collates program reports and surveys. Creates outreach for new participants and retains and strengthens existing participation. 

 

  • Increases community engagement by increasing resources available onsite and explores new partnerships to assist residents with additional needs. Develops external contacts to increase availability of resources and services for the client and maintains strong relationships with existing external contacts.

  • Works closely with Thrive Studios and Family & Youth Specialist as needed.
  • Ensures that all services provided are properly documented. Maintains accurate, current, and complete service records according to established timelines, policies, procedures, funding sources, grants, and/or contracts.
  • Displays independence in working with families in various settings (i.e., in home, community based, and center based).
  • Acts as an advocate for the individuals receiving services and the organization.
  • Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Keeps abreast of national, state, and local policies and practices that impact the department and client base and keeps abreast of current events and trends influencing the delivery of service programs.
  • Represents Inspiritus and the Refugee & Immigrant Services Department in the community in both the public and private sectors.
  • Serves as an Inspiritus liaison with other service organizations in the community and participates in community networks to provide public awareness and education.

Non-Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet program needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and recruit’s volunteers.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Manages program budgets with the Regional Director of Metro Atlanta.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position.
  • Ability and desire to work within a team and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to take initiative and coordinate logistics.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills and make appropriate, difficult decisions.
  • Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served and their families.
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet client/agency needs.
  • Must be computer literate.  Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Must have personal vehicle, valid Tennessee Driver’s License, good driving record and appropriate automobile insurance.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior and show initiative.
  • Well organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks and workloads in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong leadership skills with a proactive approach in identifying and solving problems
  • Patient and flexible

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience dealing with social issues impacting consumers and the community.

 

Physical Demands:  Regularly required to talk and hear. Required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls: and reach with hands and arms. Required to operate personal vehicle.  Employee frequently lifts and or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:  Indoor and outdoor environment.  Travels up to 30% of the time to meet with consumers, families, staff, service providers, and others.  While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
