Job Summary

Position Overview

The Program Lead oversees the implementation of the after-school and summer programs at the assigned Harvest Hands site. (Regardless of primary location, occasional presence at Harvest Hands Napier is required [for meetings, etc.]).The Program Lead creates and oversees programs that ensure that the Harvest Hands pillars of education, healthy living, spiritual formation, and economic development are conveyed. This role builds relationships with families, schools, and community-based organizations to equip each student to maximize his/her potential. The Lead serves as a trusted member of the Programs Team to support the growth and development of the organization to be faithful to our mission. This role directly supervises a team of staff and volunteers and ensures that direct reports understand their responsibilities and duties and effectively execute their work. The Lead may also facilitate a classroom of elementary-aged students, when necessary.

This is a part-time, hourly position (30-35 hours/week). Program Leads are required to work Monday-Friday, approximately 10am-6pm every day in the fall and spring, with adjusted hours (approximately 7:30am-3pm) in the summer. Professional development days plus occasional nights and weekends will also be required.

 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Participate in initial and ongoing training.
  • Work alongside the Programs Team to develop and lead After-School and Summer programs for elementary-aged students (Kindergarten-5th Grade). This includes working alongside the After School Program Manager to develop a curriculum, program schedule, and list of activities.
  • Work alongside the Programs Team to create objectives and performance measurements for youth programs.
  • Recruit, train, and manage Classroom Facilitators and volunteers for the assigned location. This includes classroom management, cultural competencies, trauma-informed care, and behavior management and interventions, and others as determined by the After School Program Manager and/or Senior Director of Programs.
  • In collaboration with the Classroom Facilitator(s), plan, prepare, and implement an approved curriculum covering topics related to the Harvest Hands four pillars (education, healthy living, spiritual formation, and economic development).
  • Lead efforts to recruit program participants for the assigned location, including coordinating and/or attending recruitment opportunities.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with partner schools, including regularly meeting and communicating with teachers and administrators at local schools.
  • Maintain accurate program data and participate in data collection efforts.
  • Uphold all Harvest Hands policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety protocols and behavior management techniques.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the Federal Feeding Program and ensure that food is available and prepared each day.
  • Manage after-school program site and program within the approved budget.
  • Inventory supplies and reorder as necessary.
  • Organize community building events, such as Family Nights.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students’ parents/guardians.
  • Create additional opportunities for students beyond the formal program, i.e. field trips, weekend trips, etc.
  • Facilitate a classroom of students and/or fill in as needed when other Programs Team members are absent or unavailable to ensure there is no disruption of programs and services.
  • Work with the Programs Team to involve youth in sports opportunities and other healthy living initiatives in the neighborhood.
  • Attend and support students in their extracurricular activities (i.e. sports, recitals, plays, etc.)
  • Ensure facilities are clean, organized, and conducive to learning.
  • When necessary, transports students in Harvest Hands vehicle(s) to program-related locations (such as the program site, field trips, etc.).
  • Attend monthly All-Staff Meetings, weekly team meetings, and other meetings as requested.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Characteristics

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following professional qualifications:

  • A strong and clearly observable faith in God and a strong passion and commitment to mission and outreach in an underserved community.
  • Minimum associate’s degree or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related field preferred.
  • Previous managerial experience, including conducting team meetings, one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace, virtual meeting platforms, and other basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Previous experience working with and managing large groups of elementary-aged children (Kindergarten-5th Grade).
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Previous experience working in a program or education setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintains credibility through sincerity, honesty, and discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong time management skills; uses time effectively; consistently meets deadlines.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Bilingual Spanish/English (advanced fluency or native fluency).
  • From or lives in area(s) served.
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience working with children, youth, and families in the urban context.

Physical Demands

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Work around small children, including moving about large spaces, ascending/descending stairs, and/or lowering oneself to be on a child’s level.
  • Work in a chaotic, sometimes noisy environment.
  • Occasionally lift and transport heavy items up to 50 lbs.
  • Spend extended periods working on a computer and/or screen to complete administrative tasks.
