Job Summary
The Program Director for the Teen Author Workshop and Carnegie Kids Club at Carnegie Writers, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, and execution of all program activities. This includes managing and supporting the Literacy Facilitators, ensuring the delivery of engaging and effective literacy-focused curriculum and activities for both teens and children. The Program Director will work closely with staff, participants, and stakeholders to foster a creative, inclusive, and enriching environment that supports the educational and developmental goals of the program. Additionally, the Program Director will handle logistics, evaluate program outcomes, and maintain strong communication with parents and the community to ensure the success and sustainability of the program.
Job Responsibilities

Program Oversight: Manage the daily operations of the Teen Author Workshop and Carnegie Kids Club, ensuring all activities align with the program’s goals and objectives.

Team Leadership: Supervise and support Literacy Facilitators, providing guidance and mentorship to enhance their teaching practices and ensure the delivery of high-quality educational content.

Curriculum Development: Work with Literacy Facilitators to develop engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and literacy development for both teens and children.

Participant Support: Monitor the progress of participants, ensuring they are supported in their learning and development. Address any individual challenges and ensure an inclusive learning environment.

Collaboration: Collaborate with parents, community partners, and staff to ensure the program meets its educational and developmental goals. Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child’s progress.

Event Planning: Coordinate and organize program events such as readings, publications, and other creative showcases that highlight participants’ work. This includes overseeing logistics for guest speakers, field trips, and other enrichment activities.

Program Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of the program, gather feedback from staff and participants, and adjust strategies as needed to improve overall participant engagement and program outcomes.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records on participant attendance, progress, and any relevant program data to ensure proper documentation and reporting.

Staff Training & Development: Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for Literacy Facilitators to ensure they are equipped to meet the needs of the participants and maintain program quality.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Education, Literature, Creative Writing, or related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in program management, youth engagement, or teaching in creative writing or literacy-focused environments.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to develop engaging curriculum and adapt to the needs of diverse participants.
- Commitment: Passion for fostering creativity, literacy, and inclusivity in youth development.
