Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Program Director has full responsibility of overseeing overall management and development of the center’s Membership and Family Services programming. Program Director is also responsible for overseeing all safety-related operations including training, certifications, and maintaining all safety procedures and equipment. Other responsibilities include income production, expense control, staff training, membership development, facility management, and philanthropy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure outstanding customer/member service and meet the New Way to Work philosophy and Association Standards; respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner
  • Create a caring, friendly, fun, safe environment that provides opportunities for staff and members to connect, develop relationships, and achieve their goals through YMCA membership
  • Represent the YMCA with area organizations, community leaders, businesses and other interested persons in the community for the purpose of building and/or and maintaining collaborative relationships that strengthen programs
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of programs for membership service retention and producing revenue
  • Establish new program activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans; direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives; compile program statistics, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of – and participation in – programs in relation to the program’s purpose and specific goals
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information, organize and schedule program registrations, review and process program scholarship applications
  • Participate in all special events, activities, and meetings as necessary, including staff meetings, trainings, and assigned committees; assist other staff with special programming activities and special events
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff and volunteers as needed
  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
  • Prepare annual program budget and monitor departmental budgets as assigned to ensure budgetary goals are met
  • Prepare and submit monthly program reports, budgetary information, and funding requests in a timely manner to appropriate staff
  • Participate as a key staff leader in the Annual Giving Campaign by telling YMCA story by recruiting, leading and supervising volunteers and securing charitable donations
  • Perform assigned “Manager on Duty” and other assigned responsibilities as part of the Center’s leadership team

Qualifications

Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA

Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Substantial experience in relationship development, staff hiring, training and leadership and fiscal management
  • YMCA experience in membership and in administration and management of relevant YMCA programs preferred
