Job Summary
The Program Coordinator assists in the overall operation of the Center with emphasis on planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating center programs. They are responsible for all member activities that are educational, social, and recreational and encourage total health well-being, and community involvement. The Program Coordinator assists in the recruitment and retention of center members, overseeing instructors and volunteers and maintaining the center databases.

Essential Functions (Duties/Responsibilities)

- Plans, promotes, implements, and evaluates center programs and activities to provide the highest-quality, engaging programming for center members.
- Sets up rooms for programs and activities, assists in keeping the Center neat and orderly, and assists with keeping displays for programs and bulletin boards current.
- Prepares and maintains the monthly center calendar. Works closely with other staff members in implementing the activities on the calendar. Promotes activities through social media and other means.
- Welcomes new members to the center, conducts new member tours, and promotes membership in the Center.
- Actively recruits, screens, interviews, hires, evaluates and terminates instructors and group facilitators in conjunction with the Center Director.
- Drives agency vehicle and/or arranges for volunteer drivers for daily programming and special events and day trips.
- Updates the MySeniorCenter Calendar and GiveHub with all activities and assignments on a weekly basis or more frequently as needed.
- Works closely with the Center Director in executing overall Center goals. Brings to the Center Director’s attention all matters of importance that arise.
- Works closely with the Membership Committee and Program Committee in identifying new program opportunities and outreach events.
- Maintains and establishes new community partnerships to help foster community engagement and awareness.
- Participates in the development and provision of virtual/digital content for the membership portal and social media platforms across FiftyForward centers.
- Maintains an active corps of Center volunteers who are selected, trained, and recognized in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
- Updates the FiftyForward Communications department with ongoing programs/activities occurring at the center.
- Attends staff meetings and meetings required by FiftyForward or the Center Director.
- Oversees the operation of the Center in the absence of the Center Director.
- Serves as backup to office personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook and Publisher; proficient in database management and maintaining electronic data files and records.
- Ability to shift priorities quickly and unexpectedly.
- Proven ability to be flexible and work cooperatively with internal and external customers.
- Must be willing and able to drive a fourteen-passenger group travel van and maintain a good driving record and required automobile insurance.
- Knowledge of and ability to work effectively with older adults.
- Must have a deep commitment to our mission and values.
Certifications and Licenses:
- CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to be trained; maintain knowledge of AED (defibrillator).
- A valid TN driver’s license including a good motor vehicle record, and appropriate automobile insurance.
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in social services, recreation, or related field. Associate’s degree with relative work experience may be considered.
- Prefer bilingual in Spanish and/or 1-3 years working with the Hispanic/Latino population.
- 1-3 years experience in program planning, marketing, promotion and recruitment.
- 1-3 years experience working in a customer/client-focused environment.
- Prefer at least one year’s experience working with active older adults and volunteers, working in a non-profit agency, and/or working in health and fitness.
- Prefer experience creating newsletter publications and flyers.
