Typical schedule: Sunday – Thursday, 8:30 – 5 PM (Monday – Friday during camp sessions)
Pay rate: $21/hr.

INFORMAL DESCRIPTION
Kids create memories at camp that last a lifetime! As Program Coordinator, you’ll be the guiding hand that makes these unforgettable experiences possible. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of one of Nashville’s most popular camps, as well as help create other experiences at Adventure Science Center.
The science center runs camps for grades K – 6 throughout the summer, as well as during fall, winter, and spring break. These week-long experiences bring the wonder of science and technology to life for the next generation. As Program Coordinator, you’ll work with our education teams to assemble a dynamic camp curriculum, hire seasonal camp counselors, and then act as camp leader.
In between camp seasons, you’ll also help plan and lead inspiring events like our TWISTER program for girls in STEM and our popular Touch-A-Truck events for kids.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development and operation of the camp at Adventure Science Center. They will develop camp themes and daily schedules, assigning curriculum development tasks to the Informal Education, Formal Programs, and Planetarium departments. They will purchase and manage camp supplies, hire and supervise seasonal camp counselors, and serve as the overall point of contact while the camp is in operation.
The Program Coordinator will support the Senior Coordinator of Experience Planning in the development of other events at Adventure Science Center, such as Astronomy Day, Touch-A-Truck, and TWISTER.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate the development of camp curriculum (but not produce lesson plans directly)
- Manage the camp registration process, including creating entries in our ticketing platform, dividing campers into classes, and assigning counselors
- Purchase, organize, and maintain supplies for camp activities
- Hire, supervise, and support seasonal camp counselors and volunteers
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians before, during, and after camp
- Assist with the development/operation of non-camp events
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School diploma required
- Prior experience teaching or organizing a camp is highly desired
- Background in STEM and/or education a plus
- Prior experience planning large activities or events preferred
- Ability to manage large groups in a fun, educational environment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/facilitation skills
- Positive attitude required: a strong desire to work with and inspire children and adult guests from diverse backgrounds in a fun, learning atmosphere
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Basic knowledge of customer service principles, techniques systems, and standards
- Proactively engage guests, school groups, and campers in personal, inspiring interactions while showing genuine enthusiasm for ASC
- Anticipate guest needs and solve issues or concerns with a positive, courteous, helpful, respectful, and professional attitude, in person and during all communications, including electronic and telephone calls.
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
- Attend monthly staff meetings as scheduled
- Support coworkers with a positive attitude when needed
- Perform core operational functions of guest safety and wayfinding
- Assist during emergency and evacuation situations
- Perform other duties assigned

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
- Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50lbs assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, and visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform assigned duties.
- Some repetitive motion is involved.
- Work schedules and work hours are variable based on operation requirements.
