Oasis Center was founded in 1969, a group of young lawyers came together to establish the “Rap House,” a simple community center for runaway teens and youth struggling with addictions. Fifty years later, the “Rap House” has evolved into Oasis Center, where nearly 4,000 youth and families turn for help and direct support every year. Oasis Center provides a wide range of opportunities that reflect the diverse needs of youth and their families, from crisis intervention to youth leadership and community engagement to college and career access. Our 20+ programs and services are based on the foundation of four areas for youth success: SafetyBelongingEmpowerment, and Generosity.

Position: Weekend Residential Counselor (Part-time)

Saturday: 9am-7pm

Sunday: 8am-6pm

Thursdays (as available): 2-4pm

Summary:  To provide overnight awake supervision and case management services to clients.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provide supervision for youth shelter residents
  • Coordinate and lead all weekend activities for residents staying over the weekend.
  • Manage petty cash and provide appropriate documentation for expenses.
  • Provide intake and assessment services to youth and families referred to the shelter program.
  • Provide group services when appropriate or assigned.
  • Facilitate the referral process for potential clients.
  • Attend weekly staffing/meetings and regular supervision.
  • Document client interaction in a consistent and ethical manner.
  • Provide crisis counseling services through the agency coverage system.
  • Provide liaison and referral services with appropriate mental health centers, courts, physicians, school systems, Department of Children’s Services and others as needed.

Qualifications

  • Driver’s license
  • Must pass a TBI background check
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • Strong capacity to form meaningful, caring, and affirming relationships with all young people, including LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Clear understanding of racial inequities and other forms of discrimination and willingness to operate from an anti-oppression model.
  • Knowledge and ability to access community resources.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply crisis intervention theory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Three years relevant experience
