Job Summary

Senior Ride Nashville (SRN) is a growing nonprofit in metro Nashville that meets the transportation needs of older adults by providing affordable, assisted rides given primarily by volunteer drivers.

Position Summary: Senior Ride Nashville seeks a part-time contract driver to provide friendly, safe, and reliable transportation to adults aged 60 and older. SRN provides door-through-door service, assisting riders into the car and into their destination, upon request. Rides will be assigned by SRN staff. Drivers will use their personal vehicle to complete these rides and must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and be able to pass criminal and driver background screenings. Please consider your vehicle when determining if this is a role you should apply to: many SRN clients are unable to ride in tall pick-up trucks or very large SUVs. (A good rule of thumb: if you’d expect an older adult with limited mobility to struggle to get into your vehicle, it is likely not suitable for our needs.)

SRN currently serves riders living in West Nashville, North Nashville, East Nashville, Madison, Donelson, Old Hickory, and Hermitage. Preference will be given to applicants who reside within Davidson County. The driver is responsible for providing rides to SRN members throughout Davidson County. This position is a part-time, contract position and reports to the Program Manager.  Rides take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers will give SRN their availability but a regular commitment of between 2 and 5 days/week is expected. The driver will receive hourly pay and mileage reimbursement.

Job Responsibilities

• To be a careful, safe, and responsible driver
• To be able to log in to our ride website to obtain ride assignments and close out each ride after it is over, recording accurate mileage and time
• Call the rider the day before the ride to confirm details and identify yourself as the driver
• To assist the rider into their destination and with shopping needs if requested
• To be reliable, courteous, and patient
• To maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform routine checks to ensure proper maintenance

Qualifications

• Must have access to a personal vehicle that is suitable for driving older adults
• Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
• Must have at least 5 years driving experience
• Must have proof of personal auto liability coverage
• Must maintain the vehicle in good working condition
• Must have access to a cell phone
• Must be capable of reading a map and interpreting GPS directions
• Must always have and use seat belts
• Must adhere to Tennessee driving and safety laws
