Part-time Accountant



Job Summary

Organizational Summary

The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) was founded in 1970 to create an association focused on leadership development, integrity, training for law enforcement and sound public safety policy. For over 50 years the TACP has experienced significant success in the public safety policy arena statewide and has also been a leader in law enforcement accreditation, leadership training, policy development, compliance with the Presidential Executive Order on Use of Force and accountability. The TACP currently has three full time staff members and an Executive Director.
Position Summary

The Part-time Accountant is a member of the TACP staff team with responsibility for maintaining the TACP accounting system, as well as the day to day general ledger transactions. Additionally the position requires the running and recording biweekly payroll, processing and recording accounts receivable and payable activity, as well as any cash receipts; and, maintaining accuracy of fiscal tracking documents and files, as well as financial reporting for grants to the grant making agencies/departments. This is a Part-Time position, maximum of 20 hours per week. The Part-time Accountant will report to the Executive Director.



Job Responsibilities

• Process payroll cycles with assurance of accuracy and record fiscal activity into general ledger
• Handle Accounts Payable (AP) duties, pay bills timely, record accurately in general ledger and retain supporting documentation
•    Assist in the development of financial reports for the TACP Board of Directors
•    Reconciliation of credit cards, with documentation
•    Understand and submit federal, state and local taxes withheld
•    Process W-2s and 941 report, as required
•   Perform other finance department functions as needed

• Experience with payroll systems

• Experience with accounting software, SAGE preferred but not required
• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills

Education and Experience

• BA/BS in Finance or Accounting is required
• Two or more years of direct payroll processing experience
• Two or more years of direct accounts payable experience
• Four or more years of financial accounting experience
• Nonprofit accounting and general ledger experience

Physical Requirements 

Ability to physically perform the duties required and to work in the environmental conditions required such as:
•    Working remotely or telecommuting is an option, however some meetings and activities will be required at the business site of the TACP
•    Maneuvering in an office space; reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, and making phone calls

Additional Information


•    Hourly Pay: 35.00- 40.00 per hour
•    Working remotely or telecommuting is option, with the understanding some meetings and activities will be required at the business site of the TACP.
