Job Summary
The Parks & Placemaking Coordinator is integral to the success of the Parks & Placemaking department. The Coordinator will be responsible for creating events and activations that foster community engagement. The Parks Coordinator ensures efficient operations and exciting offerings, playing a key role in ensuring all activities contribute to the Clean, Safe, Active, and Attractive elements of downtown Nashville.
Job Responsibilities
- Event coordination: Under the supervision of the Vice President of Parks & Placemaking, the Parks & Placemaking Coordinator plans, coordinates, and executes events and activations within parks and public spaces. The Coordinator assists with all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, permitting, vendor coordination, and on-site supervision with Park Hosts.
- Key Metric: Ensure a consistent and dynamic schedule of programming that activates the park daily.
- Calendar maintenance: The Coordinator works with Image & Communications to promote events on NDP calendars and related public calendars to maximize community participation. The Coordinator will also maintain internal activation calendars for NDP staff. The Coordinator may also attend community meetings, fairs, and other events to promote park offerings and engage with stakeholders.
- Key Metric: The Parks Coordinator maintains events and activations in a shared calendar with contact information for each event.
- Evaluation and reporting: The Coordinator collects feedback and assists in evaluating the success of partnerships, activations, and events.
- Key Metric: Data collection through surveys, attendance records, and other metrics including Placer.ai, and maintaining a database of volunteer contacts.
- Creates Standard Operating Procedures which provide guidance and structure to Park Hosts, while requiring consistent standards for the goals of the Parks & Placemaking Department at NDP.
- Planning of seasonal projects in park spaces: plant selection, planting schedule, mulching, leaf collection, snow and ice removal, and related repair and maintenance of facilities, fixtures, and equipment.
- Provides input and reviews prepared schedules, assignments, and requests for Park Hosts, Team Leads, and supervisors in coordination and consultation with Block by Block.
- Routinely and regularly inspects park spaces to ensure compliance with daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal operations and goals.
- Oversees the purchase of Park Host uniforms, along with equipment and supplies needed for programming and events with vendors.
- Collaborates with others within the Operations Division honoring NDP Operations Team to include Employee of the Quarter, Employee of the Year, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant study; skills and experience may substitute if appropriate.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in event planning, partnerships, or community engagement, preferably in a parks or recreation setting.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and event management software
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work as required for event coverage.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse audience including board members, staff, downtown employees, and community and business leaders.
- Ability to be a thoughtful and collaborative colleague with other NDP team members.

Valid TN Driver’s License: The driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
