Job Summary


Workers’ Dignity (WD) is a worker-led center organizing for economic justice and dignity for all. Through a member-led process including assemblies and leadership development, we organize strategic campaigns to build worker power in Middle Tennessee. 

The Operations and Communications Manager oversees daily operations including finances, database management, supporting project management, government compliance, technology, and office management. They also oversee communications. The Operations Manager reports to the Co-Directors. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Finances (10 hrs/wk)

  • Record and reconcile all income and expenses on a timely basis, maintaining all pertinent information in Quickbooks.
  • Manage bank and credit card accounts, including making regular deposits.
  • Maintain vendor accounts and pay invoices.
  • Process payroll and contractor payments, as well as approved reimbursements.
  • Oversee compliance with all WD financial policies and procedures, and promptly bring any discrepancies to the attention of the co-directors and Treasurer.
  • Review monthly financial statements and bank statements with the Steering Committee (Board) appointed Treasurer. 
  • Oversee the presentation of monthly financial reports to the Steering Committee (Board) and Co-Directors. 

Communications (10-15 hrs/wk)

  • Oversee timely updates to website and social media accounts.
  • In collaboration with the organizing team, create original content for emails to supporters, social media posts, and press releases. 

Internal operations (10 hrs/wk)

  • Database management, including data entry, report creation, improving WD’s use of data, and making proposals for any major changes to the database. 
  • Provide administrative support for online internal calendar, digital meeting and organizing tools, etc. 
  • Onboarding and offboarding employees and interns.
  • Manage insurance policies (health care, D&O, liability, etc).
  • Manage the digital file system and make upgrades and improvements as requested.
  • Oversee implementation of and compliance with WD’s internal security protocols (and make proposals to changes, as needed).

Government compliance (0-1 hr/wk)

  • Promptly pay all state and federal taxes, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, and any other fees. 
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual state and federal reports.
  • Maintain up-to-date and secure all documents required by government agencies.

Office management (1-2 hrs/wk)

  • Oversee the timely maintenance, cleaning and supply purchases and rentals for WD’s physical space. 
  • Oversee scheduled maintenance and purchasing of technology (computers, copier, etc). 

Other duties (3-5 hrs/wk)

  • Collaboratively maintain a healthy culture of mutual caring and high standards of work. 
  • Event planning.
  • Simultaneous interpretation in English/Spanish at staff meetings (preferred). (2 hrs/wk)
  • Secure interpretation for membership meetings and events, and English/Spanish. translation of documents.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, with at least 1 year of demonstrated success in creating compelling content for communications (digital newsletter/eblasts, press releases, social media posts, etc).
  • Clear, persuasive communicator.
  • At least 1 year experience in organizational finances using Quickbooks. 
  • At least 1 year experience in Operations, or 2 years of experience in a comparable field. 
  • At least 1 year experience in database management.
  • Excellent personal, organizational and time management skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities; and accountability to goals. Independent problem solver.
  • At least 1 year experience in a multi-lingual, multi-racial organization. Experience in grassroots organization preferred. 
  • Respect for and willingness to learn from differing perspectives, voices, and backgrounds.  
  • Team worker who will roll up their sleeves with staff, be resourceful and creative to get the job done.
  • Demonstrated commitment to base-led organizing for economic, racial and social justice.
  • Commitment to WD’s mission and values.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, with experience in simultaneous interpretation, preferred.

Strong preference for people of color, bilingual (English/Spanish is preferred), experience with worker organizing, including persons who come from the base, familiarity with working in the South or conservative-dominate areas.
