Job Summary

Nashville International Center for Empowerment, established in 2005, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ethnic community-based organization dedicated to ensure refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come. The Online ESL Instructor will provide ESL instruction to LEAD families and the greater Nashville community. This is a 10 hour a week position paid by LEAD Southeast via Dollar General grant funds. The position is for a low intermediate (EFL level 4) class.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach an online English literacy course for adult English language learners for 4 hours each week. There will be opportunities for additional hours if/when substitute teachers are necessary.
  • Prepare and execute lesson plans from approved curriculum that are culturally responsive and targeted to the assessed needs of learners.
  • Utilize integrated education training techniques to incorporate workforce development opportunities into the classroom.
  • Incorporate digital learning tools as assigned.
  • Record and monitor student attendance and homework.
  • Record and monitor student progress through regular communication and assessment.
  • Co-teach with volunteer instructors as assigned.
  • Assist the education team in recruiting and registering potential students from LEAD Southeast families and the greater Nashville community
  • Attend meetings, training and workshops that address improved instructional and classroom management practices
  • Maintain regular communication with Adult Education Program Manager, Distance Education Coordinator and team

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Ability to present a strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Have high levels of motivation, self-reliance, and independence
  • Ability to troubleshoot/problem solve

Qualifications

  • Availability Tuesdays, Thursdays from 6-8PM
  • Excellent written and oral English proficiency
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ESL teaching strategies
  • Familiarity with Zoom, Google Drive, WhatsApp, internet and email

Experience:

  • Qualification to teach English Language Learners. Acceptable qualifications include MEd, MA, or MAT in ESL or TESOL, TESL or TEFL certificate from a qualifying agency, CELTA or DELTA certification.
  • Minimum 1 year relevant work experience with qualification or 4 year’s equivalent work experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
