Job Summary

SPECIAL KIDS IS A NON PROFIT CHRISTIAN THERAPY AND NURSING CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

 

We are licensed professionals, but first we are Christ followers with a mission to “serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children.” Special Kids offers professional services to children ages birth through 21 years. Nurses at Special Kids’ Kleinau Nursing Center serve medically fragile children who need skilled nursing care, in collaboration with other disciplines, including occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy, and nursing. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required.

 

Shifts: No evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Staff: Approximately 18 (see Supervisory Responsibilities below)

Patients: Approximately 18

Summary

Plans, directs, and coordinates patient care activities within the Kleinau Nursing Center to maintain standards of patient care, and advises staff, leaders, and administrators in matters related to Prescribed Pediatric Skilled Nursing, Recreational Therapy and Equip (activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth) programs by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties within the scope of practice may be assigned.

 

Patient care: Ensures that the mission of Special Kids is being met each time a family walks through the door by making sure the center is operating compassionately, effectively and efficiently. Success is measured by assessing the holistic growth of patients, families, and team members, patient volume and longevity, and reduced operational issues. Works closely with the Medical Director and Lead Nurse to ensure proper nursing care is provided for each patient, including, but not limited to, regular Plan of Care Reviews. The Nurse Manager should also be able to function as a part of the patient care team by taking a patient care assignment PRN and providing direction to staff as needed.

 

Clinic Operations: Ensures effective and efficient operations by promoting best practices in terms of center workflow and adherence to policies, procedures, nursing standards of care and Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (CORF) Regulations. Analyzes operations, identifies trends and issues in performance, develops recommendations for improvements, and implements changes to enhance operations and patient care.

 

Employee Performance Management: Motivates, directs and manages the performance of clinical and non-clinical team members to achieve identified goals. This includes goal setting, performance evaluation, coaching and counseling for continuous improvement, team building activities, and training geared toward achieving a high performing, highly engaged team environment.

 

Organization Leadership: Provides strong servant leadership on-site. Is an influential source of guidance and direction for clinical and non-clinical team members. Supports the strength and unity of the Nursing Center team and with other departments. Works closely with the Executive Director and Leadership Team to ensure the highest quality of care is provided organizationally.

Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly manages the Lead Nurse, Lead Recreational Therapist, and Nurse Coordinator who supervise the RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s, Recreational Therapists, Recreational Therapy Technicians, Equip Teacher, Food Specialist, Housekeeping Technician, and the Nursing Center administrative support team. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

BSN required. In addition, MSN or MBA preferred. Prefer 3-5 years of measurable related leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

 

Computer Skills

To be successful in this job, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse state license. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification.
