Job Summary

Summary: The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is hiring a Multicultural community organizer to work with our organizing team to identify and develop leadership in diverse immigrant and refugee communities, identify pressing issues and opportunities to organize in these communities, and connect individuals to TIRRC’s existing services, campaigns, and leadership development opportunities. Ideal candidates for the community organizer position are established leaders within immigrant and refugee communities in Tennessee, with strong relationships and deep networks, who have strong communication and organizational skills to identify and develop leadership in diverse immigrant and refugee communities. 

Salary Range:

$40,000-44,000 depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities

Community Education

  • Lead community education and outreach efforts on TIRRC campaigns and services to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have accurate and timely information about policy changes that impact the lives of their community
  • Attend national partner calls to learn federal strategy for the refugee resettlement campaign and inform TIRRC staff and core leaders of recommended next steps

Community Organizing

  • Hold individual and group meetings to deepen relationships, identify community leaders, and identify important issues affecting the community, including but not limited to TIRRC’s Black immigrant caucus and refugee resettlement meetings
  • Facilitate the engagement of immigrant and refugee leaders, organizations, and communities in civic engagement efforts and in TIRRC’s issue advocacy campaigns
  • Recruit dues-paying individual and organizational members to join TIRRC to help build TIRRC’s power and empower community members across the state
  • During election seasons, will work closely with TIRRC’s sister organization, TIRRC Votes, to support GOTV efforts and various civic engagement campaigns

Organizational Support

  • Represent TIRRC at community events, in the media, and with other organizations as needed
  • Ensure all data is maintained in the organizational database
  • Participate in significant organizational events

Qualifications

  • Belief in TIRRC’s mission and experience with social justice
  • Demonstrated ability to work on deadline, be highly organized, work with little supervision, and maintain accountability and strong communication with others in collaborative projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and to build and maintain relationships with partners
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking
  • Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred
  • Basic literacy with Microsoft Office, video conferencing, and data management systems
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel statewide
  • Must have reliable transportation
