Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Mental Health Culinary Recovery Coach ensures that lunch is prepared and served each day to 50-60 members  and that the kitchen is kept to health code standards.  The person in this position will train members of the program in culinary skills through side-by-side training and special classes. Part-time position expected work hours Monday – Friday 9am – 2pm, 25 hours weekly.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Oversees all Culinary Services at the PCS Location
    1. Leads members in preparing a daily lunch for the members/staff of the PCS program.
    2. Operates, with member participation, a snack room and lunch ticket system.
    3. Oversees all special lunches including board luncheons, employment luncheons/dinners, holiday meals and coordinates other special events.
    4. Orders all food and equipment needed for the program, staying within budgetary and food safety guidelines.

  1. Trains Members in Culinary Services
    1. Engages members how to prepare and serve lunch, and cleaning up after lunch, training them in skills they may need to work in the culinary field in the community, or skills they can use in living independently.
    2. Culinary Recovery Coach will intentionally provide 1:1 interaction to ensure that members are gaining skills that can be transferred into the workforce or to independent living environments.
    3. Provides continual feedback to members, emphasizing strengths, always praising publicly and providing negative feedback privately.
    4. Provides special groups/classes in culinary topics, such as baking, nutrition, preparing meals, plate presentation, etc.
    5. Finds creative ways to engage members in tasks related to meal prep, cleanliness tasks, inventory tasks and dining room service.
    6. Trains cleanliness standards for both kitchen and dining room.
    7. Teaches food delivery systems: waiting on tables.

  1. Responsible for Documenting and Communicating Member Progress:
    1. Writes a group note daily, with individual addendums for each member participating during the day in the unit.
    2. Records any incidents that arise in member database.
    3. Communicates with Recovery Coaches regarding the members they are serving by way of email or meetings.
    4. Attends staff meetings when to share progress of members

    1. Collaborates with staff, members, and the community to gain the perspectives of others having diverse opinions, abilities, values, beliefs, perspectives, and ethnic or cultural backgrounds.
    2. Takes deliberate steps to increase own cultural competency by attending trainings, events, discussions, workshops, etc.
  2. Additional job duties:
    1. Completes all required trainings annually.
    2. Attends all required meetings
    3. Other duties as assigned
    4. WORKING CONDITIONS
    5. Works in a kitchen environment.  Employee is exposed to extremes of temperature in and around cooking appliances, and sharp utensils used during food preparation.  The noise level is usually moderate to loud.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

       

      Ability to walk, stand and sit throughout the day.  Use hands for repetitive grasping and fine manipulation.  The employee is frequently required to use hands for pushing/pulling, squatting, kneeling, lift and carrying and pushing or pulling.  The employee is occasionally required to climb a ladder or reach/lift overhead.  Must be able to move or lift up to 15 pounds.  Employee is occasionally required to move or lift over 20 pounds.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a social work field, or a high school diploma with experience in a mental health field and /or experience working and teaching in a commercial culinary setting preferred
  • Ability to work as a member of a team by offering feedback and receiving feedback
  • Ability to complete culinary tasks
  • Ability to teach others in a training capacity.
  • Creative
  • Communicates well verbally and in written form
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license
  • Must be able to show proof of personal automobile insurance.
  • Must be insurable under Park Center’s automobile insurance.
