This position is responsible for working with providers and patients to collect and process lab specimens to process on-site or submit to local laboratories. Ensure patient and employee safety at all times following standards of care. Also, verbally communicating procedures to patients and verifying understanding of the procedure.
Essential Functions:
Must report to work on time, maintain acceptable attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will:

- Possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills
- Obtain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment at Mercy (done in-house).
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.

Job Responsibilities
Collection of lab specimens, including blood, urine, nasal swabs, throat swabs and other required specimens ordered through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) by in house providers
Process collect specimens for in house testing for CLIA waived testing. By following standards of practice for conduction and resulting in the data entry of results into the patients Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Process collected specimens and create requisitions electronically or manually to send out to local laboratories for processing and tracking the return of these results
Manage inquires between patients and outside laboratories regarding billing concerns.
Assist nursing staff in collecting vitals and documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Certification as a lab technician preferred. Successful completion of Mercy Community Healthcare Caregiver Training and all applicable competency checklists and exams; must be competent with venipuncture for both adult and pediatric patients
Experience: Computer and keyboard skills preferred; must be able to effectively communicate the English language verbally and in writing; select bilingual skills preferred in areas where there is a need to communicate with the bilingual patient population. Must possess a BLS certification or become certified within 90 days of employment.
