Managing Director Job Description

Program Supervision, Management, and Strategic Planning

  • Lead the collaborative processes of daily operations, implementing the short and long-term strategic vision, and tactical plans to accomplishing Exile’s mission — restoring and empowering children of war to become leaders for peace
  • Provide strategic support and leadership to domestic and international partners
  • Regularly coordinate and communicate with DRC and Uganda leadership teams and country liaisons — overseeing progress and tracking/reporting measurable strategic objectives
  • Provide support and leadership as part of the Executive team, fulfilling various administrative and management needs

Organizational Development, Human Resources, and Leadership

  • Provide ongoing support for field managers and domestic staff — empowering teammates to succeed in their roles
  • Oversee strategic management of domestic team: including performance management and reviews for direct report staff
  • Assist in planning and leading weekly development meetings with Co-CEO(s)
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings
  • Provide support to Admin Director and Co-CEO’s relative to employee relations, legal compliance, the implementation of best practices, and, to a lesser extent, compensation & benefits
  • Lead in the development of a staffing plan that includes appropriate training and professional development
  • Support the Executive Team in the shaping and maintaining of a healthy organizational culture as the organization grows and evolves
  • Evaluate and strengthen internal policies, procedures, & processes alongside Administrative Director
  • Offer support to compensation and benefits programs as appropriate

Program Management

  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with relevant domestic and international organizations and stakeholders
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight to ensure programs are effectively achieving their intended impact
  • Collaborate with domestic and international partners in planning and implementing of strategic goals to further the success of Exile’s mission
  • Participate in the planning and development of annual program goals and objectives in conjunction with the strategic plan 
  • Collaborate with international partners to ensure timely tracking and reporting of key program overviews, counseling reports, financial updates, budget requests and approvals 
  • Plan and co-lead monthly calls/meetings with international leadership teams
  • Participate in quarterly child sponsorship meetings with Admin Director and Finance team  
  • Assist International partners and Exile Finance team in planning, oversight, and follow up of yearly program audits
  • Travel with Exile to Africa 1 – 2 times per year to:
    • Provide administrative oversight and ensure programs are achieving their intended impact 
    • Provide and implement strategic goals to further the success of Exile’s mission
    • Provide training as needed
    • Any other job-related request of Board & Executive Team

Finance

  • Assist program leadership to ensure the timely submission of operational and financial reports required for internal monthly reporting
  • Provide oversight and collaboration with the Financial team, ensure the proper maintenance of appropriate financial records, and preparation of required financial reports
  • Assist CEO and Sr. Project Accountant in yearly and monthly budget planning/approval and monitor programming budgets as needed
  • Assist Sr. Project Accountant and International team members in monitoring and updating program budgets as needed

Information & Technology Systems

  • Lead the team in the selection, implementation and proper utilization of technology solutions to accomplish organizational objectives
  • Through collaboration with the team and communications professionals, support the organizational marketing and fund development efforts through best practice tools and technology

General Job Requirements

  • Provide leadership to Exile by providing vision and strategy to achieve Exile mission and objectives
  • Provide leadership and oversight to daily operations of Exile’s domestic and international programs
  • Coordinate with Board of Directors as directed by the Executive Team to provide progress of programs, and operations related to mission directives
  • Speak on behalf of Exile at churches, schools, fundraising events, etc., as needed
  • Return all emails within 48 hours from the date they are received. If possible, return internal team emails within 24 hours of the date they are received. 

Support the successful execution of, being available for the duration of, and completing all contracted duties during crucial organization events (fundraisers, fundraising campaigns, and awareness campaigns), including but not limited to: The Big Payback (24 hour giving campaign), Hope Wins, Giving Tuesday (24 hours giving campaign), and Exile’s End-of-Year Campaign (November 1st to January 1st of each year).

Experience Preferred

  • 3+ year of previous experience in program or operations director role
  • History of success managing multiple projects in a professional setting with little supervision of the day-to-day
  • Ability to present quality projects for approval/feedback and meet stated deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out and/or cast vision, communicating clearly and efficiently to team members and relevant stakeholders

This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday alongside the Exile team out of a Nashville-based office, along with some evenings and weekends (as needed).
