Job Summary

The Manager of Livability supports the Chamber’s efforts in improving livability in the region and ensuring that the region continues to be a great place to live and do business. While mobility, housing, and childcare will be the primary focus, other topics that affect the quality of life in the Nashville area will also be addressed. The Manager assists with a range of projects including, but not limited to, Leadership Study Mission, Vital Signs, and Moving Forward. The Manager provides support to other Chamber work, including public policy efforts at the State and Metro levels, as needed.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the Chief Livability & Policy Officer to develop and implement the Chamber’s livability agenda.
  • Coordinates Moving Forward, a group of business leaders that work to improve mobility in the region.
  • Helps lead content development for the Leadership Study Mission, the Chamber’s annual visit to another city to learn about best practices in livability and economic development.
  • Helps develop Vital Signs, the Chamber’s regional survey.
  • Expands and deepens relationships with partners (including, but not limited to, elected and administrative officials, non-profits, and member volunteers) to implement the livability agenda.
  • Monitors and analyzes news, legislation, and policy action impacting livability in the Nashville area
  • Tracks best practices in livability.
  • Assists with the completion of special projects and critical core functions of the Livability & Policy Theatre as needed.
  • Supports the Chamber’s revenue culture.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Project management is a consistent and ongoing aspect of this position. The Director of Regional Policy works closely with the Chief Policy officer in developing and implementing projects, specific products, and initiatives including, but not limited to, developing and leading projects and initiatives, selecting participants and recruiting volunteers, making assignments, developing timelines and budgets, identifying deliverables and tracking performance and results.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A graduate of an accredited university is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in advocacy, public policy, or government affairs.
  • Passion for improving livability in the region.
  • Knowledge of livability issues, including mobility, housing, etc.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to apply reasoning and problem-solving skills to quickly identify critical issues and develop plans and programs to accomplish objectives.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and work with internal and external stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours.
  • Knowledge of PC functions and Microsoft Office Applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
