Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence
Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and representation to the Coalition and supervising staff attorneys. As a member of the management team, the Legal Counsel will be involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Contracts and Policies
- Review agency contracts.
- Develop MOU’s with subcontractors.
- Update agency by-laws, personnel policies, and other documents.
Training and Technical Assistance
- Develop and update legal materials on domestic and sexual violence.
- Provide training and technical assistance to communities on laws and policies related to domestic and sexual violence.
Management
- Supervise staff attorneys.
- Facilitate legal team meetings.
- Assist in program development and grant reporting.
Meeting Attendance
- Attend weekly management meetings and monthly staff meetings.
- Attend all board meetings, DVSCC meetings, and community meetings as needed.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Supervision
- Supervised and accountable to the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Law degree and license to practice law in Tennessee.
- A minimum of five years of experience practicing law.
- Experience working in family or immigration law.
- Knowledge of domestic abuse and sexual assault laws.
- Experience supervising other attorneys.
- Excellent people skills, with experience in collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and LEXIS.
