Job Summary

Meals Program Kitchen Assistant, Contract Position Summary 

The Meals Program Kitchen Assistant is responsible for the production of food prepared by the TNFP kitchen, with an emphasis on the daily food prepped for hot meals, cold meals, and snacks; this position works with TNFP staff to maintain kitchen cleanliness and adherence to Health Department codes, and ensures best practices and proper cooking techniques for meals.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities include (during COVID)

  • Assist in TNFP kitchens; performing general kitchen duties, maintaining kitchen organization and cleanliness and adhering to the best practices of food safety.
  • Assist with the prep, production and cooking of meals.
  • Assist in weekly meal prep ensuring consistency in food quality and safety, sanitation and cooking practices.
  • Assist with the cooking of the weekly meals for partners, prioritizing gleaned and donated products, creating highly nutritious meals. 
  • Work conscientiously to minimize waste through careful use of ingredients.
  • Maintain quality control of fresh foods by keeping perishable food rotated and shelved for timely use and/or distribution.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, prep area, dry storage, walk-in cooler, freezer and cooking areas in accordance with safe food handling requirements.
  • Ensure that all items placed in the fridge and freezer are properly labeled and dated.
  • Work efficiently to finish all the required daily tasks and shut down the kitchen before leaving.
  • Assist meals team in distributing excess food to partner organizations, processing what can be frozen for TNFP, and preparing food to be shared with partners.

Qualifications

CLASSIFICATION

We are currently seeking a Kitchen assistant for our Meals Program  for our HQ Kitchen team. This is a full time, contract position with up to 40 hours per week. Hours required: Monday-Friday, 8 AM-4 PM (subject to change based upon needs).
