Founded by refugees for refugees, Legacy Mission Village is an organization whose mission is to provide hope and healing to refugees in the Middle Tennessee area by empowering refugees with education and skills to achieve stability and economic success thereby facilitating successful integration into American society.

We are looking for someone to fill the position of Journey Refugee High School Program Coordinator. The Journey program provides an opportunity for educational, professional, and socio-emotional development for refugee high school students. Monday-Thursday, this program hosts after-school tutoring sessions at alternating sites. During school breaks, the Journey program will provide remedial English and math classes, informative workshops, and social events for the students. The Journey Program Coordinator will run the program and have several job responsibilities including administrative work, tutoring, transporting students, managing other Journey staff, community outreach, and mentoring students.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Journey Refugee High School Program Coordinator include, but are not limited to, preparing for and participating in daily after-school tutoring sessions; planning and organizing events and workshops for the students; delegating tasks among Journey support staff; helping students with applications for jobs, colleges, and financial aid; preparing routes and helping with transportation to and from tutoring sessions and events; acting as a liaison between Rutherford and Davidson county schools and Legacy Mission Village; maintaining relationships with volunteers; and being a support system for the students.

Qualifications

Qualifications for this position include:

  • A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Work or at least 2 years teaching or non-profit experience
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is preferred but not required
  • Must submit to a background check

This will be a full-time position with benefits including a 401k, PTO, and a monthly stipend for the purpose of supplementing medical insurance costs.
