Job Summary

North Nashville continues to have one of the country’s highest rates of formerly incarcerated adults per capita. This fact creates a multi-layered negative dynamic in the 37208 community, making it almost impossible for the majority of families and individuals to escape generational poverty. Our Job Readiness Program will begin January 2023 and be an annual, year-long, holistic support program for formerly incarcerated individuals comprising two semesters: one of soft skill learning, job-readiness training, and food industry skill training and one of a paid entry-level experience with food service industry partners. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for creating and stewarding this program from its inception.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build curriculum and schedule for the year-long program that includes soft skill development, job skill training, job preparation, industry-specific learning, and entry-level work experiences
  • Recruit, interview, and enroll fifteen participants for the program’s inaugural year, twenty participants for year two, and later years based on program funding
  • Seek out and establish relationships with necessary program partners and volunteers to be utilized in classroom and training sessions or for resource navigation related to workplace reentry after incarceration
  • Serve as the primary mentor for all enrolled participants, keeping case files and conducting case management to alleviate barriers to long-term employment, stable housing, financial security, mental and emotional wellness, and overall improved quality of life
  • Act as liaison between industry professionals serving as partners for participant employment and enrollees, facilitating on-the-job learning and teaching
  • Maintain all required confidential records and files on program participants related to incarceration, program enrollment, financial status, and employment history

Qualifications

  • Lives by Christian values and exhibits a relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Passionate about protecting and empowering people living in distress and finding ways to change the cycle of poverty
  • Exhibits humility, honesty, reliability, integrity, trustworthiness, and a servant’s heart
  • Strong in multi-tasking, executing program occurrences, and developing strategies; all with attention to detail
  • Has the ability to organize calendar and prioritize emergent needs
  • Maintains grace and poise under pressure; remains teachable and adaptable to new situations
