Job Summary
Consistent with the Christian mission and Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the JCD Operations Director – Resident Camp, the Assistant Operations Director position is responsible for assisting the Operations Director in program direction and implementation while maintaining the safety of the campers, guests, and staff, and ensuring the Joe C. Davis Outdoor Center programs are run efficiently through detailed supervision and objective business decision making.
Job Responsibilities

- Interact effectively with the camp staff and guests to provide excellent customer service
- Ensure inclusion in programs at Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center year-round
- Work directly with the JCD Operations Director – Resident Camp in overseeing the general Resident Camp operations, programs, and activities to ensure the safest and highest quality camp
- Work with the JCD Operations Director – Resident Camp to construct and manage measurable fiscal responsibilities
- Assist JCD Operations Director – Resident Camp in the interviewing and hiring of seasonal staff
- Guide and direct campers and staff in the development and implementation of a variety of camp activities including character and skill development in each activity period
- Ensure camp programs are delivered to all guests in a safe, fun, and efficient environment; know, understand, train, and execute all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp
- Ensure that all program area schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner
- Coordinate with Property, Housekeeping, Food Service, and Day Camp departments building usage, meal planning, program area schedules, and other logistics to ensure program and camper needs are met and the program runs smoothly with other departments.
- Assist JCD Operations Director – Resident Camp with camper behavioral issues and parent phone calls
- Maintain correspondence home to the parents of campers regarding program changes/updates, theme weeks, and other program-related items
- Take part in mid-summer and post-summer evaluations with the Camp Program Director
- Spear-head and coordinate year-long events including Pumpkin Fest, Family Camps, and Open Houses
- Work with special events, promotions, rainy day programs, overnights, extended care, and any other special needs as they arise
- Create, implement, and grow extended season programs including but not limited to family, teen, and parent/child programs producing new revenue streams
- Serve as week-end or evening MOD on a rotating basis
- Maintain a positive working relationship with other staff
- Acquire and hold certifications and licenses necessary to ensure safe and proper implementation of all program areas and proper training and supervision of staff in specialty areas in order to provide the safest and highest quality programs possible.
- The position may require living on-site.

- Must present a professional image possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, versatility, and independent thinking
- Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment, is required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Experience supervising staff preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Certifications Required:
- Before the start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
- Before the start of 1st shift: Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
