Job Summary

The Immigration Legal Clinic Managing Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice and representation to immigrant victims of domestic and sexual violence, and human trafficking.  The Attorney is also responsible for supervising other Immigration Clinic staff and day-to-day operation of the Immigration Clinic.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities

Client Representation

  • Provide legal advice and representation to immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • Oversee all aspects of client case management and litigation, from intake to conclusion of the representation.
  • Assess need for referral of clients to outside attorneys for legal advice and representation if necessary.

Training and Technical Assistance:

  • Provides training and technical assistance on legal issues related to immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking

Communications:

  • Responds to requests regarding immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking
  • Assists in Immigrant Clinic outreach activities
  • Document all client communications and work in Legal Files  

Personnel and Grant Management

  • Oversees day-today operation and work flow of the Immigration Clinic.
  • Supervises the Part-time attorney, bilingual legal advocate, and bilingual legal secretary.
  • Provides grant management and ensure program goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Manages data collection and prepares grant reports.
  • Assists in program development and evaluation.
  • Documents work and activities as required.

Meeting Attendance:

  • Attends Legal Team meetings and Coalition staff meetings as required
  • Attends trainings, conferences, and outreach meetings as needed
  • Conducts Immigration Team meetings

Other Duties:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Supervision:

  • Supervised by and accountable to the Coalition Legal Counsel

Hours of Work:

  • The Supervising Immigration Attorney is expected to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week with some weekend and evening work required.

Qualifications

  • Law degree and license to practice law in Tennessee
  • At least three (3) years immigration law experience.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Legal Files, Microsoft Word and LEXIS Law Publishing programs.
  • Ability to utilize case management and database software.
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Self-starter.
  • Some travel required.
