Job Summary

At The Contributor, our core purpose is to eliminate homelessness and create community. As a Housing Stability Guide, you will provide support to formerly unhoused adults during their transition into stable housing. This role requires compassion and creativity to partner with individuals to navigate complex barriers to housing stability and to secure long-term community support.

The Housing Stability Guide also provides “front desk” problem-solving support for street newspaper vendors one day per week at the office, assisting them with various housing-related needs. This role is not a remote position but does include a lot of flexibility. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Housing Stability Support
    1. Conduct regular home visits to check on the well-being of residents, provide support, and monitor the condition of the housing units.
    2. Develop and maintain positive relationships with landlords and property managers.
    3. Assist residents in resolving housing-related issues, including conflicts with landlords/neighbors.
    4. Focus intensely on co-creating housing stability with tenants by brokering supports and services based on tenant needs, goals, and the basic requirements of lease agreements.
  2. Supportive Services Coordination
    1. Connect residents with supportive services such as mental health care, substance abuse treatment, healthcare services, and employment assistance.
    2. Develop individualized housing stability plans in collaboration with residents.
    3. Provide ongoing case management to help residents maintain their housing and achieve their personal goals through Critical Time Intervention principles and approaches.
    4. Utilize a harm reduction approach, meeting residents where they are and supporting them in reducing the negative consequences of risky behaviors.
  3. Front Desk Support
    1. Serve as the point of contact for newspaper vendors seeking assistance with housing needs.
    2. Assist vendors with applications for housing programs, securing identification documents, and other necessary paperwork.
    3. Provide information and referrals to other community resources as needed.
    4. Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment at the vendor office. Cover shifts in the vendor office at least once per month as needed.
  4. Administrative Duties
    1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions with residents and vendors.
    2. Prepare regular reports on housing stability metrics and program outcomes.
    3. Collaborate with the Director of Housing Initiatives to improve program processes and outcomes.
  5. HMIS Database Management
    1. Enter and update client information in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
    2. Ensure data accuracy and completeness for all program participants.
    3. Generate reports from the HMIS database as required by program management and funders.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field, or equivalent lived experience of homelessness.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in housing programs.
  • Knowledge of the Housing First model and harm reduction strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
