Job Summary

The Center for Living and Learning is seeking a full time Horticulture Manager for our Vocational Rehabilitation Program. CLL is located on a serene, thirty acre farm in Franklin, TN. Our program offers a unique work environment that combines a passion for gardening with a desire to help others. We provide horticultural therapy and job training to those living with mental illness. Our goal is to provide a supportive, therapeutic environment in which our trainees can heal and learn.

We are looking for a reliable and highly motivated individual who has a passion for the outdoors and working with their hands. Responsibilities include harvesting, planting, pruning, weeding, mowing, and overall plant health care of the garden and greenhouse. As the Horticulture Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the Horticulture Program to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to the trainees. You will oversee 2 teams of 6 or more trainees and be responsible for their participation, productivity, and appropriate workplace behavior and safety.


 

Job Responsibilities

  • Garden management: creating garden plot layouts, operating the irrigation systems, seed starting, planting, harvesting, greenhouse maintenance, and implementing pest and weed control
  • Follow organic gardening methods and structures already established
  • Manage CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program and customers
  • Digitally record daily progress notes to track trainee progress
  • Order Supplies
  • Maintain garden equipment and gardening grounds
  • Monitor trainees and delegate garden tasks appropriate to their abilities and skills
  • Address and resolve trainee needs in a respectful and compassionate manner
  • Teach curriculum based garden lessons
  • Maintain a record of expenses, which are approved by the Executive Director
  • Coordinate and manage volunteers
  • Follow safety policies and procedures
  • Effective time management

Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Written documentation of one year experience in horticulture 

OR

  • An Associate’s degree/high school diploma 
  • Written documentation of three years experience in horticulture
  • Experience working directly with disabled persons will be considered first
  • All candidates are required to submit to a background check
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
