Job Summary
University School of Nashville seeks an outgoing, energetic, and organized self-starter to assist in the instruction of a high quality, culturally competent, project-based curriculum through the Horizons @ USN summer enrichment program. The Assistant Teacher will engage students in learning math, science, reading, and language arts.
This position requires excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; proficiency with technology; a passion for the mission of the Horizons program; and an unwavering belief in the potential of all young people. The ideal candidate will be a current college or graduate education program major and have experience working with school-aged children. The Assistant Teacher will help the Lead Teacher plan for and engage the students in daily activities and lessons. The program runs from June 2 through July 10, 2025. Participation in pre-program orientation and quarterly family events during the school year is required. This position offers a stipend of $6,200.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
· Perform classroom instructional duties and care for approximately fifteen students
· Assist Lead Teacher in leading daily, active, hands-on lessons in reading, language arts, and math
· Maintain attendance records, write lesson plans, provide instruction and evaluative feedback
· Set up and maintain a classroom atmosphere that creates a space for positive learning
· Swim daily with the students
· Ride the bus for pick-up and drop-off and provide supervision for the students
· Provide an evaluative report on each student at the end of the summer
· Work in partnership with other teaching assistants
· Instruct and guide student aides on how to interact with and lead students in and out of the classroom and submit a final evaluation of the individual
· Attend all field trips and participate in daily meals with the students
· Attend events outside the school day including attend parent orientation and faculty meetings; as well as all other duties that may be required
· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Horizons Program Director

· Current teacher or currently enrolled in a undergraduate or graduate education program
· Experience working with school-aged children
