Job Summary

University School of Nashville seeks part-time medical personnel to work on an as-needed basis providing healthcare services and maintaining the student health database at this highly respected K-12 independent school. The Health Room Staff at USN provides a wide range of healthcare support to students and employees during the academic school year.

Job Responsibilities

  • Providing medical care and services to students according to physician-prescribed medical care and treatment orders 
  • Providing emergency treatment and routine first aid in case of illness or injury, with parental consent
  • Providing medical first aid and emergency support to employees, as needed and appropriate
  • Following confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations in all matters
  • Maintaining student immunization and other medical records
  • Conferring with students, parents, and teachers regarding student health
  • Managing the school’s health system database, updating clinic treatment notes daily, and ensuring parents review/update student health information annually
  • Coordinating with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary
  • Responding to emergency medical situations; performing first aid as needed; coordinating with local emergency personnel and agencies as required
  • Monitoring, assisting, and administering insulin to diabetics, as required, and providing other treatment as necessary
  • Administering the school’s Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Policy and Plan; providing other training, as needed and required, and maintaining training records
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies and materials needed in the clinic; developing and monitoring procedures for maintaining adequate supplies in all school first aid kits
  • Disseminating appropriate communication to the school community concerning health and welfare issues (i.e. lice)
  • Following all required cleaning and sanitization procedures
  • Performing other duties as determined by the Health Room Director

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Certified and Licensed Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Doctor (RN minimum)
  • State licensing requirements must be current and maintained
  • Certification in CPR/AED/First-Aid must be current and maintained
  • Experience with recording health information in an electronic database preferred
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Be dependable and organized, with integrity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude
  • Be proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and internet applications
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all medical information for students and employees
  • Be eager to learn, adapt well to change, and be committed to one’s own professional growth
  • Work productively and demonstrate initiative when unsupervised
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other members of the USN community
