Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) is a statewide network of teachers, parents, community leaders, and volunteers dedicated to supporting, championing, and fighting for Tennessee’s students and their futures. Our organization’s efforts, including legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, and engagement across the state, and issue advance to support high-quality public education systems across Tennessee.

We are seeking a full-time paid government relations intern for the 2023 Tennessee General Assembly legislative session. Interns will support and work closely with the TSS government affairs and advocacy team, as well as its lobbyists daily. Applicants must reside in Nashville, Tennessee, or possess the ability to reliably commute to Downtown Nashville daily. The 2023 legislative session is scheduled to begin at noon on January 10, 2023 and continue through mid-May.

Job Responsibilities

  • Currently pursuing or have already completed a bachelor’s degree
  • Profound attention to detail

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment with a keen ability to adapt
  • Computer proficiency, Microsoft Word and Outlook Calendar application proficiencies preferred
  • Ability to take thorough notes
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act in a professional and respectful manner in all encounters
  • Comfortable working in an environment with, sometimes, little oversight
  • Discretion in keeping highly sensitive material confidential
  • A strong interest in learning about the Tennessee legislative process and government
