Job Summary

The Associate will assist with the creation and maintenance of nonprofit profile content for GivingMatters.com, an online initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, that enriches and empowers philanthropy in our region by promoting nonprofit transparency-putting nonprofit information at the fingertips of donors, foundations, volunteers and community members in a searchable database.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities – GivingMatters.com

  • Work with nonprofits to initiate and complete new nonprofit profiles for GivingMatters.com database. This work includes communicating with area nonprofit directors, staff, and board members; assessing, analyzing and validating information provided by nonprofits; assisting nonprofit professionals with the online self-entry system and regularly assessing their progress; and entering and publishing data to the GivingMatters.com website.
  • Collect and verify supporting information and documentation (from IRS, State of TN Department of Charitable Solicitations, etc.) needed for due diligence of local nonprofits; maintain this information in GivingMatters.com files.
  • Work with nonprofits to conduct annual updates and regular maintenance of 1400+ existing nonprofit profiles.
  • Serve as primary point-of-contact (“Profile Coach”) for 1,000+ nonprofit organizations, providing customer service and assistance with database by phone, email, and in-person meetings.
  • Regularly review, approve, and publish changes and updates made by nonprofit users to their online profiles
  • Field questions and requests for information regarding GivingMatters.com from nonprofits, donors, foundations, and public users of the site.
  •  Help identify and complete periodic content-related projects to ensure consistency and accuracy of data on GivingMatters.com.
  • Work closely with our local foundation partners to gather information on applicants for their grant funding, and updating the profiles of those applicants.
  • Research, write and update articles (“Issue Overviews”) for the website about current needs in Middle Tennessee communities.
  • Assist in conducting workshops and presentations about GivingMatters.com for nonprofit staff and funders.
  • Assist in grant proposal writing/editing for GivingMatters.com external funding.
  • Support the marketing efforts of GivingMatters.com.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Primary Responsibilities – The Big Payback

  • Guide local nonprofits, schools, and religious institutions through the registration process for The Big Payback. This includes making sure the organizations registering to participate have up-to-date GivingMatters.com profiles.
  • Contribute to other tasks related to The Big Payback such as email communication, event logistics, and answering donation-related questions from nonprofit participants and donors.
  • Assist in conducting trainings about participation in The Big Payback.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong people skills with a service approach, and ability to build rapport over the phone are both required
  • Very strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Tenacity and creative problem solving skills required
  • Strong writing and editing skills encouraged
  • Ability to understand and analyze nonprofit financial documents (Form 990s, audits, budgets)
  • Proven goal-oriented organization and systematic thinking
  • Understanding of nonprofit management and trends in philanthropy preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong computer skills required, including advanced knowledge of internet applications and databases
  • Proficient in Microsoft products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and the ability to learn new applications
  • Social media marketing skills a plus
