Job Summary

The mission of the Andrew Jackson Foundation is to preserve The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson, to create learning opportunities, and to inspire citizenship through experiencing the life and unique impact of President Jackson.

Position Overview

The part-time seasonal Gardener position is responsible for garden and landscape maintenance in the highly trafficked, 1.35-acre Historic Garden, and 1,120-acre National Historic Landmark site. 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • As a member of the team, accountable for the preservation of The Hermitage Garden supporting all aspects of our garden operations. 
  • Daily activities include landscaping, gardening, soil maintenance, infrastructure upkeep, fertilizing, watering, and maintaining flowers, trees, and shrubs. 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • The right candidate will have professional gardening experience and an eye for detail.
  • Ability to think critically, use hand tools and do physical labor is required.
  • Experience in sustainable gardening and power tool proficiency is desired. 
  • Public garden experience preferred, but we will train the right candidate.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 30 pounds of force unassisted; stoop, bend, climb, and lift; walk multiple miles during a shift; stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Most work is performed outside. Ability to work in all weather conditions is required.
