Fundraising Research Specialist, VUMC Development

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Relationship Management, the Fundraising Research Specialist completes research requests from clients and manages ongoing need to grow the donor and grateful patient pipeline; identifies potential major and principal gift donors to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to enhance fundraising efforts; collaborates and strategizes with colleagues regarding pipeline health and development; and promotes effective portfolio management and provide analysis of portfolios, the prospect pool, and the pipeline at-large.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Fulfill proactive and reactive research needs for clients (Development Officers, Development leadership and Medical Center leadership), enabling them to meet and exceed fundraising goals. Consult with clients to determine feasibility of research requests and special projects.

Identify new prospects using traditional prospect research techniques and tools, including database segmentation.

Utilize news alerts to review local and national news from internet-based sources. Review annual reports and ranking lists to glean relevant information.

Contribute to data management and portfolio integrity by assisting with portfolio assignments and updates. Review data audits to ensure accurate and high-quality data that directs, tracks and measures relationship building activities.

Build a broad and deep understanding of prospect management, portfolio tracking, and best practices to formulate and propose processes and training materials.

Collaborate with Analytics and Strategic Initiatives colleagues to provide detailed descriptive analysis of the pipeline and prospect pool. Identify dashboards and reports to manage prospect tracking system.

Adhere to ethical and confidentiality guidelines as indicated by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), VUMC and HIPAA.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience)

2 years’ experience

Preferred Experience:

3+ years’ experience in prospect research, portfolio management, university advancement, healthcare development, non-profit operations, or other relevant experience.

Ability to analyze, interpret, synthesize, and present complex information while handling confidential matters with care and discretion.

Ability to collaborate with colleagues, manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet various deadlines.

Demonstrated proficiency with electronic research tools and techniques, internet search

methodologies, databases, and wealth screening applications.

Exemplary communication, organizational and customer service skills.

Knowledge of Advance or Raiser’s Edge database.
