About the Speer Foundation:  Speer Foundation is a privately-held Christian Foundation whose mission is to witness for Jesus Christ in the community by contributing to Christian causes, community causes, medical institutions, educational causes, organizations providing assistance to military veterans, and other needs of our communities, our nation, and the world.  The Foundation has assets of $186,000,000 and has awarded $47,000,000 in grants since 2015.

Position Summary:  The Foundation Associate will provide critical support for the grantmaking, administration and operations functions of the Foundation in a small family office.  The Foundation Associate will be an important member of the team and add value to the overall thinking of the Foundation staff.

Job Responsibilities

Coordination of Grantmaking Process:

  • Grant Administrator for our grants management database (Blackbaud Grantmaking) to include:

– Manage grant application process serving as point of contact for applicants and providing assistance as they move through grantmaking process

– Review applications for accuracy and completeness and obtain additional information as necessary

– Report manager for database providing necessary reporting and ensuring data is accurate and complete

  • Team lead on process improvement projects such as survey of grant applicants and periodic revisions of grant application
  • Research non-profits and potential grant recipients
  • Assist with monitoring and follow up of any grant requirements such as Expenditure Responsibility reporting
  • Participate in the development of strategies for the Foundation’s grant making

 

Administration and Operations Assistance:

  • General office administrative functions – monitor main Foundation phone, mail, maintain grantee files (annual reports, thank you’s, gift receipts), and order office supplies
  • Assist with design and implementation of paperless document storage
  • Review, proof, and edit correspondence and presentations composed by members of the Foundation Team
  • Publish and distribute electronic newsletter – Foundation Matters
  • Revise and maintain content of Speer Foundation website (with IT assistance)
  • Help in the development of and oversite of project guidelines, timelines, budgets and outcomes relating to any Speer Foundation special projects
  • Schedule/confirm logistics for travel
  • Organize volunteer activities for family and staff
  • Willingness to learn from and commit to ongoing professional development, to be funded by the Foundation, and participate in learning opportunities as appropriate and time permitting

Qualifications

Qualifications/Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in basic office technology including Word, Excel, PowerPoint or other comparable programs
  • Ability to learn other computer applications such as QuickBooks and Blackbaud Grantmaking
  • Experience utilizing electronic databases and software programs
  • High level of diplomacy, sound judgment, and discretion when dealing with grantees, vendors, community professionals and trustees
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines
