Job Summary

Jewish Family Service is seeking a part-time controller. This position is responsible for managing accounting records and  the production of financial reports.  The controller executes all aspects of the  accounting process, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, compliance and HR functions.  The role also involves filing medical insurance claim forms on behalf of counseling clients

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and HR functions of Jewish Family Service
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for Executive Director and Board
  • Review and maintain accounting system/files/reports on QuickBooks and Excel
  • Prepare budget using assumptions provided by the Executive Director including staff budgets for presentation to the Finance Committee
  • Financial reporting to Federation, Metro and State Charitable Solicitation Boards, other agencies, and to foundations for grants awarded
  • Prepare lead schedules and pro formas for annual audit and work with auditors on annual report review
  • Provide information to auditors for preparation of Form 990- long version
  • Prepare and submit Form 5500
  • Files Medical Insurance claims on behalf of Counseling Clients and resolves payment issues with insurance carriers
  • Performs Payroll function via use of QuickBooks including quarterly 941 and TN-UI reports
  • Prepare and file Annual W-2s and 1099s
  • Oversees employee benefits including health insurance, 403(b) plan and HSA

Detailed accounting duties:

  • Prepare journal entries
  • Review and prepare bi-monthly payroll and personnel changes
  • Prepare AP Checks

Monthly:

  • Prepare and enter monthly accrual and adjusting entries
  • Reconcile Accounts Payables and Receivables
  • Reconcile Operating Bank Account
  • Reconcile Investment Accounts
  • Allocate benefits  
  • Allocate Administrative expenses
  • Allocate caseworkers’ Salary per Program hours worked

Compliance:

  • File State Charitable Solicitation Report
  • Prepare and file Professional Liability Insurance questionnaire

Qualifications

  • Accounting Degree or equivalent experience
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Experience with QuickBooks Accounting and Payroll
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience filing and working with Medical Insurance Claims and EOBs preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to function independently, but with a team
