Job Summary

Position Summary

Position provides individual, family and group Therapy, and co-facilitation of Strengthening Families Program or any similar family support program groups. Position is responsible for program enrollment, data collection, safety planning, treatment planning, advocacy and resource linkage.  This position would conduct community outreach as needed on behalf of the YWCA.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Serves as family liaison with schools, day care centers and other agencies. Liaison activities include but are not limited to, networking with school staff, advocating at school meetings, and assisting with school attendance barriers.
  2. Provides individual, family and group therapy for residents living in Weaver Center, transitional housing clients, and community clients.
  3. Develops individualized treatment plans and assesses client strengths and needs.
  4. Delivers age-appropriate, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed counseling services.
  5. Provides consistent counseling sessions, monitors client progress, offers crisis assistance, and coordinates community-based referrals as needed. 
  6. Assists families in enhancing communication and building resilience.
  7. Possesses knowledge of Children’s Enrichment Activities, Trauma Informed Care practices, Verbal De-Escalation techniques, Positive Discipline models, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Empowerment-based service delivery.
  8. Measures results, tracks data and completes documentation in a timely manner as defined by the Manager of Family Services.  
  9. Facilitates support groups and Strengthening Families, or any other family support groups as defined by the Manager of Family Services.   
  10. Provides on-call clinical support as needed to Families First clients.
  11. Maintains accurate and confidential records for each client, documenting interventions used and resident progress toward treatment plan goals and family services program outcomes.
  12. Conducts outreach in the community to educate on DV services that are available and helps to implement culturally responsive, trauma-informed services.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Conducts intake assessments, explaining program focus and benefit to survivors.
  2. Responds to crisis calls and makes appropriate referrals.
  3. Provides transportation for residents as appropriate.
  4. Provides support and assistance to volunteers as needed.
  5. Develops an understanding of agency and program policies and procedures, implementing appropriately and interpreting to residents and volunteers.
  6. Monitors family-side resident activity throughout shelter and manage conflict through appropriate intervention.
  7. Protects client confidentiality and client records at all times.      
  8. Attends program staff meetings, in-service training sessions, YW All Staff, and other meetings as requested.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
  10. Professionally represents the YWCA brand in an appropriate manner at relevant meetings and forums.


Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Position requires a master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field and a minimum of 2 years of clinical work with children and families. Training in children’s enrichment activities, Trauma Informed Care and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) preferred.  Any of the following licenses preferred: LMFT, LCSW, LPC-MHSP. Must demonstrate experience working with marginalized women and children.

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be fit for travel by automobile and willing to travel independently to reach engagements.
  • Ability to carry boxes/materials with various weights up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to move throughout the building as well as sit or remain stationary for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Manual dexterity required for typing and the use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to speak concisely.
  • Tolerant to various noise levels: noise level in the work environment varies – may be very quiet to moderate.

Other Requirements

  • Position requires incumbent to have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and a clear driving record for the last three years.
  • Ability to work long and flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness to support the mission of the YWCA and ability to convey its importance both verbally and in writing.
