Job Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician has both internal and external responsibilities. The Facilities Maintenance Technician partners closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that building and outdoor areas are clean, organized, safe, functional, and well-maintained to support the smooth operation of an organization. The primary responsibilities of this role are maintaining the facility’s interior and exterior, and ensuring the property is clean, safe, functional, and visually appealing. This role encompasses a wide range of duties, including building maintenance, groundskeeping, janitorial tasks, and minor repairs contributing to the overall operation and upkeep of the facility. creating a clean and welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors. This role creates a positive environment that supports the organization’s goals and the well-being of its occupants.

Job Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Setup:

  • Perform general repairs such as plumbing issues like leaky faucets, and clogged drains, repairing minor electrical problems, replacing light bulbs, fixing door hardware, patching drywall, and addressing minor carpentry needs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as regularly inspecting and servicing HVAC systems, checking fire alarms/extinguishers and sprinkler systems, lubricating moving parts, cleaning gutters and drains, replacing air filters, and coordinating required inspections of building systems.
  • Conduct and schedule inspections to identify and address safety hazards or maintenance needs on required systems such as elevators, fire/life safety, irrigation and sewer systems, etc. to ensure proper certifications and operation.
  • Supports facility users in the preparation and restoration of internal and external spaces for meetings, training, or events, ensuring the space is functional, clean, and set up to meet specific requirements.
  • After use, restore the area back to its original state by dismantling temporary setups, storing equipment properly, and conducting any necessary repairs or cleaning.
  • Ordering, assembling, and installation of facility furniture or equipment as needed or required.

Groundskeeping:

  • Perform basic landscaping, including mowing lawns, weed eating, trimming shrubs, planting flowers, and removing debris as needed between lawn servicing.
  • Ensure walkways and parking areas are clean and free from hazards, including snow and ice removal as needed.
  • Perform seasonal outdoor tasks, such as leaf raking/blowing and gardening.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors as required for specialized repairs or services when necessary.
  • Maintain “backyard” areas and maintain/coordinate trail maintenance and upkeep.
  • Perform or coordinate pressure washing outdoor areas, outdoor furniture, and building exterior as needed
  • Maintain the outdoor elements such as a gas firepit, fountain, playground, picnic pavilion, and natural firepit area to ensure these are stocked as needed and functioning properly when needed.

Janitorial Duties:

  • Perform general cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting as needed between cleanings.
  • Clean and restock restrooms, ensuring hygiene and proper functionality.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins, maintaining cleanliness throughout the interior and exterior of the facility.
  • Clean windows, doors, elevators, and other glass surfaces regularly.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and local building/safety codes.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including spills, equipment failures, or weather-related issues.
  • Maintain fire extinguishers, first aid kits, elevator, and other safety equipment in working order.
  • Perform and log all required periodic inspections/maintenance/replacement on all systems such but not limited to HVAC & filter maintenance, sprinkler/irrigation/septic systems, riser room, lighting, playground equipment, outdoor furniture, etc.

Vendor and Inventory/Supplies Management:

  • Work with contractors or vendors for specialized repairs or services.
  • Monitor, manage, and replenish cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping supplies and tools.
  • Order necessary parts and supplies as required.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools and equipment.

Collaboration, Communication and Documentation:

  • Work with team members and other departments to address facility-related requests.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers for material purchases and services.
  • Complete and store detailed records of required inspections/checklists, vendor services performed, service calls, and warranty documents.

Other:

  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in maintenance or related fields preferred.
  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related role is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy objects, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and building codes.
